Thats a real shame, I genuinely thought he could be our new shearer for england. How does all the compensation work, I mean its not the FAs fault he got injured, its a risk every footballer takes all the time.

Surely it's an insurance claim - The FA won't pay, the insurance company would.

Always a shame when a good player has to cut their career short. The same thing happened to us with Laursen last season.

Cant see how its the FAs fault, shit happens.

But I can understand West Ham trying. Its a big investment thats gone down the shitter through no fault of their own.

Ashton himself will be sorted wont he? With compensation/healthy pension payout.

ii personally think this a bigger loss than most people are admiting to, this guy had a genuine quality about him.....for a big striker he had a enough pace but he was an intelligent player which always gave him an edge, coupled with an impecable touch for a big guy he was also a real natural finisher like a Solskiar.I always thought he had the potetial to go all the way.As for England i think thats our biggest loss,Him and Rooney together? thats a real cutting edge.

read the article, nearly all of it is done through insurance, esp as he only signed a new 5 year deal last year

Players pay a large amount to the PFA Normally it's the PFA who will sort these kinds of things out. Plus.I would imagine that all players have some kind of insurance policy in case this kind of thing happens. Same as some actors insure things like their legs nd stuff....

they pay big premiums for this, he will probably get a £4 or £5m pay out minimum

Paul elliot got over £2m when his career was ended by a bad tackle a few years ago..

Just read that Luke Young has retired from England international. Didn't even know he was called up!!

Steve Thompson (england rugby) got half a million payout after doing his back in. He got better and after a year played for england again last week. He gave every penny back to the insurance company.

Top bloke.

Would Ashton do the same?

XI
I remember a few years back when it was looking like Dagenham & Redbridge were going to get promoted to league 2 from the Conference and the goal keeper was hoping they didn't because he had to give up professional football due to injury and was given a pay out but was able to play semi pro. If D&R had got promoted he'd of had to leave the club or give up playing

Thats a massive shame - only 26 too. He couldve been top class.

Why not he would make more money than that playing football and i think he would rather be able to play than wonder how good he could have been without the injuries.
