Arsenal's Robin van Persie is set for a long spell out after seriously injuring an ankle while on international duty.

The striker went off 10 minutes into the Netherlands' friendly against Italy in Pescara after hurting his right ankle in a tackle by Giorgio Chiellini.

Van Persie, 26, will have scans in Amsterdam on Sunday to determine the damage amid fears the joint is broken.

"The ankle ligaments are definitely torn," a Dutch Football Association official told BBC Sport.

That's a shame, I could see Arsenal winning the prem this year - no chance now.

He doesn't need surgery, only ruptured.

Reports today said that the person who knocked Carlo Cudiccini off his motorbike was an Arsenal fan.. A female fan one at that... Didn't know Magnum was old enough to hold a driving licence ;0)
