Eh up. Where's the thread for this then? Just been reading the preview on GAME and wondered what the early reviews say?

it's a disappointment to fans of the previous Fallouts

The originals were a top down futureristic RPG sort of Diablo style, nothing like this Action RPG 3rd person jazz. I'm interested to see how they go about it.

a next gen Alien/Aliens game

DSI Video Games (chat) / en.wikipedia.org

currently due in about 4-5 months. :D

of course the two fillums would make quite different games... Alien = survival horror / Aliens = FPS, perhaps with squad-based tactics?

the whole "space marine" thing is a little overdone these days but Aliens is the daddy. :)

the concept of space marines in games (along with the FPS format) was recognised as being over-used at least as far back as 2001, as seen in the following challenge to games designers to be more creative...

designersnotebook.com (rules 4 and 5)

it's still a cool concept, just not very original now (must date back to Doom in 93/94).

however, a proper Aliens licence - hopefully an exception to the usual rule re the quality of movie licences - with authentic weapons and sound FX is most definitely excused. :)

Gave this a little try this morning .. hmm not sure about it. Starts off cool with you as a baby and then a kid, but when the game starts proper the interface seems pretty horrible. Maybe I'll get used to it though ..

It's 4:25am. This game is addictive !

I'd say its better than oblivion so far.

Spent all night wondering round a huge cruiser.

Where the fuck is pinkerton !

phew! i was just about to ask whether the lack of discussion was due either to the game actually being shit and no one prepared to admit it or so good that everyone playing was too engrossed to post. :)

then again, i was hoping for the former cos then perhaps it would spare me a few months of late nights!

hopefully my copy should arrive today. all of my October Amazon orders with free delivery option have been just 1-2 days late. not a problem when i've got other games on the go, and they also refunded me 2 quid on Fallout under their price match guarantee without me asking.

I almost did nothing else since the purchase on Friday than played this game. Caned it till 5 am on Sat and almost whole Sunday. The game is everything I wanted it to be and confirm it's better than Oblivion. It really well blends old Fallout atmosphere and elements into Oblivion's engine. Bethesda did a fantastic job. It's smaller than Oblivion, but that's good because it's not overwhelming to the point of being daunting. You can finish it in 10 hrs but only if you resist the side quests. That's good too because you won't have to wait long to play the game again using a different type of a character. This was the case for old Fallouts as well, which you could finish in 3 hrs or so if you knew what to do. I'm trying to be the meanest brute motherfucker with my current character (yes, I'm gonna nuke the city of MEgaton :) ), then I'll play the game as a geeky, superintelligent do-good'er woman.

If you have surround sound with an amp, turn it up loud if you decide to blow up megaton...... because its the best fucking scene I've seen in a videogame...

The map is huge.

I love the towns. I have only seen 2 so far but there's alot fo characters to talk to and they al have little problems and quests.

One side quest has currently taken me 2 hours and I still haven't finished it.

You can get your own place. Furnish it. Personal robot butler. Enemys are pretty freaky.

It's got alot of character. I'm really liking it.

wicked, i don't have surround but do have an optical link to a four-speaker hifi system so i'll be sure to use that.

have you played Oblivion, Dave? sounds like a very similar format - which is no bad thing.
