Fallout3 Thread
Eh up. Where's the thread for this then? Just been reading the preview on GAME and wondered what the early reviews say?

gotta try this!

In Fallout 3, you can go "brahmin-tipping" by crouching and activating any Brahmin that isn't attacking you. There's no activation symbol, like when you target a door and it says "open door", but you push 'em over all the same. It uses a unique animation seen at no other point in the game, and the Brahmin moos and turns into a ragdoll for a few seconds.

Did you find the underwear mision?? where you find a raider wit a note on him saying return the package to girder shade!? thought that was quite funny!

Also does anyone know any chinese army misions?? I found one dead commando via radio becon but that was it??

The ranger perk was a nice touch!! selling fingers for cash is genius!! Also rieleys rangers will pay for any location you may find! which is a nice lil earner if you find em early on in the game!!

One thing I didnt like was the vast amount of inner city area that was un accessible, I couldent shake the feeling that I was being funnelled into a certain direction, which pissed me off!!

Not sure if the already iffy ps3 version will get any dlc like the pc and xbox versions but I cant see why they wouldent!?! Im dying for a map extension or new area to explore. Also a vehicle would be nice!

there's definitely a few silly bits. the Naughty Nightwear is quite handy for the speechraft bonus too. did you notice it changes appearance to match the gender of the wearer? no crossdressing allowed!

i got the Chinese radio signal near the cemetery, you can find more of them in the nearby factory although it's just a location not a mission.

i skipped the finger thing as i had stupid amounts of cash, cool idea though. i did the Rangers quest late but you get back-pay for locations you've already found. i got about 4000 i think!

yeah, the downtown area is a bit of a pain. just a case of exploring the huge network of subway tunnels to get around. not as cool as the sewers in Oblivion though!

a junk-made Mad Max car would be cool. :)

That would of been nice, We had horses in oblivion! Although if fallout did have vehicles i guess it would close the size of the map down!

Didnt check the underwear bit lol

The dunwich building has me confused!?!? After finding the recordings from Jamie I fought my way down to a cave where after killing Jamie and zombies I found a strange altar, but have no clue what it is?? and I couldent find the book that jamie was talking about! Any ideas!

vehicles could get tricky with followers though, especially Dogmeat... you could ride a giant scorpion or one of the bear things!

i guess several outfits have male and female versions actually, much as i'd like my male character to have one of those kinky Raider bras made from two sieves. ;) i'm glad it's primarily a first person game, my character had the skin-tight recon armour for a while and the Shady Hat - and looked like a twat! heh.

i think the Dunwich Building was just meant to be a spooky place to explore (with, as i mentioned, several HP Lovecraft references). it was pretty spooky too!

seeing as Fallout 3 and Oblivion are both 3D roleplayers from the same developers you'd expect there to be similarities in graphics etc but one thing that struck me as i played was how many typical Fantasy elements appear in the game (albeit with sci-fi dressings).

were they trying to appeal to the traditional (fantasy) roleplaying market, or just being a bit lazy?

minor spoilers ahead...

arguably Fallout 3 includes all of the following: knights, a castle, dungeons, monsters, roaming bandits, fireballs, invisibility, treasure chests, potions, lore books, ogres, magic items, suits of armour, quests, undead, swords, vampires, "centaurs", taverns and alignment (good/evil).

not a complaint, just an observation!

About halfway through it now and I've given up. It's full of bugs/crashes which make it impossible to complete some quests. I've read a lot of people are having the same problems. I hope they release a patch soon.

Ok, how is it possible that I left the vault at nighttime exactly? Every review I've read says there's some cool scene as you leave because your eyes are nearly blinded by the light. Am I missing out on something if I keep ploughing through this?

all that happened to me is it goes all white as the eyes get used to the light

I don't remember it going white or anything but I don't think it is relevant to the rest of the game anyway. Are you playing on PC?

No XBox 360. I spent a while checking all the rooms first so I guess it pushed my clock round further than they'd expect. It's morning now anyway so it should be fine. Kickass game anyway. I went completely the wrong way in the dark first go, ended up at some station or something before getting whacked by army dudes or something by a truck.

Ok what the hell is going on. I did Springfield school and thought I'd better start some of the quests and head to Megaton. I'm there, but can't seem to buy or sell anything. I've got like 323 caps, but surely that shouldn't stop me buying or selling stuff right? Every item has the greyed out (X) Accept button. What's going on?

There should be another button to select the items you want to buy and sell, when you have chosen everything you press accept (X) at the end to finish the transaction.

I think you press 'A' to select the items, then 'X' when you are finished. Oh and it will stay greyed out if you are trying to buy stuff worth more than 323 cps.

Nah, I'm just getting X or something like B to exit. I do have a lot of caps compared to these guys, but surely that wouldn't stop me from buying something?

No worries, it is an awesome game. The PC version is shit, crashes all the time so I bought it for the 360 so I could play it properly.

It's a wee bit buggy so far if I'm honest, but nothing really noticeable. Not since Deus Ex have I really thought about the shit I'm doing in a game.
