Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3)
i was just wondering if anyone's got this yet? been hearing very good things.

it has a badass 96% on Metacritic, averaged over 77 pro reviews!

metacritic.com (links to several online reviews)

i don't have time for it at the moment but i'll definitely be getting it. i should probably play Uncharted 1 first - since i borrowed it off a mate months ago...

Really gutted that's it a PS3 exclusive. Looks like the kind of game Tomb Raider should have been on a next gen. It'd never be a 360 game anyway as apparently it uses all the capacity of the PS3.

yes, but is PS3 really more powerful than xbox 360 or was this supposed power of the CELL CPU just a lot of marketing bollocks? Shortly after PS3 came out and there was almost no games for it, all the fanboys were banging on about "the potential" of it, and that one day they all would show us, the 360 fanboys, just how powerful their machine is but that has yes to happen. ultimately all cross platform games look just the same with some titles looking even worse on the PS3, example: Fallout 3.

Is there really is a game out there which looks dramatically better on the PS3?

Anyhow, I'll be getting the PS3 Slim myself sometime in the next year. The price is finally right.

as i understand it the 360 is actually superior in terms of the graphics processor and memory so it's still a question of developers learning how (and finding the time/money) to make full use of the Cell processor in the PS3 to compensate for this. further "potential" comes from the BluRay discs which have i think six times the capacity of a DVD.

we're unlikely though to see games taking advantage of either the processing power or disc capacity outside of PS3-exclusive games; multi-format games have to work on both consoles and in most cases i think the 360 is the lead format and often - like you said - the PS3 gets a sloppy port.

at least Uncharted 2 shows us that developers, or one dev at least, are finally starting to unlock the full "power of the Playstation" and hopefully we'll see this knowledge trickle down into other exclusive titles (not just Uncharted 3, 4 and 5!) and maybe even eventually multi-platform ones.

Uncharted 2 does have other things going for it though, the gameplay/action experience is pretty tight too. the artwork can even be a negative aspect - someone posted on GC this morning that he has to replay levels cos he keeps stopping to admire the view and getting killed. so they're literally "killer graphics"! (hoho)

If I had a PS3 it would be top of my list, alas, I don't want a PSforman grill, yet.

a couple of reflective thoughts...

firstly since the PS3 market has been happy to buy sloppy ports for three years it's probably a bit overly optimistic of me to expect anything else in the future. if developers can get away with saving money then they will continue to do so.

secondly i was thinking what good timing this release is - not just for the Xmas market but to boost Slim sales as well. i wonder if they held back either the console or the game intentionally?

Good thoughts Bart. You could be right, maybe I don't know what I'm missing because I haven't seen Uncharted 2 or Wipeout in action yet. Anyway this game looks awesome and it's gonna be on my to-buy list one I get my hands on the PS3Slim... not yet... but FF13Versus might just tip me over the edge.

Someone should really Run 3DMark Vantage through both consoles to set us straight though! ;)

What bugs me about games for any console is how it's possible to produce a game like Fallout 3 and yet you still get the same, shitty dregs week in, week out. I know I keep banging on about it, but seriously, how the fuck did they do it? Saying that, your, 'if the developers can save money, they will' comment probably explains why.

Uncharted 2 is the best single player game I have ever played, so good that I'm going to go over it again on hard. Online is really good to and co op is ace. Best graphics I have seen on a console by far

The price is finally right.

speaking of which, play.com and Amazon UK are both selling the 250-gig PS3 Slim with Uncharted 2 for 270 quid and free shipping.

looks like it's an official boxed bundle...

downloadable content coming soon...

“[...] there will be DLC available before the end of the year. Without going into specifics, it'll involve new maps, new characters, things like that. Some of it will be free of charge and some of it will be purchasable. We've got a lot of people on the team working on this stuff, some really cool stuff that people will be excited about. So we're definitely taking it very seriously,”
