What is Fetish?

1. something nonsexual, such as an object or a part of the body which arouses sexual desire or is necessary for one to reach full sexual satisfaction
2. something believed to possess, contain, or cause spiritual or magical powers; an amulet or a talisman
3. an irrational, or abnormal, fixation or preoccupation

Sexual fetishism, or erotic fetishism, is the sexual attraction to materials and objects not
conventionally viewed as being sexual in nature; a term introduced by Alfred Binet, whom proposed
a dualism of "spiritual love" and "plastic love" in which to categorize the fetishes.
"Spiritual love" focuses on specific mental phenomena; attitudes, social class, or occupational roles.
"Plastic love" is the devotion towards material objects such as body parts, textures or shoes.
The existential approach to mental disorders developed in the 1940s and influenced a view that fetishes had complex personal meanings beyond the general categories of psychoanalytical treatment.
