The Interview: Dj Donkey B (HNTV)
It GIVES ME UN Presidented pleasure in introduceing one of many exclusive interviews, with Dj's MC's and the people of our scene!
I proudly announce Happy Nation's very own Dj Donky B, a Hardcore insite:

Dj Donkey B- The Interview!!!!

D-K-B

Donkey B has been around for well quite a while now, he is one of the hidden chosen few- who is undoubtedly a very talented member of our scene but goes unnoticed within the hardcore scene due to the way things are set up in today’s world.

Being a member of Happy Nation and tuning when I get the nearest chance gives me the chance in hearing new acts within the hardcore scene.

Donkey B, I listened to on Happy Nation a while back and your set was VERY good! You played a varied upfront hardcore set which was very well constructed- who would you say that your main influences are within the circuit on you mixing wise?

I wouldn’t say I had a favourite DJ that I would like to be like, I try to play in my own style and try to keep the energy flowing through the music. I’ll pick up a lot of new tactics watching other DJ’s play, this is what I love about DJing there is so much you can learn with it you never stop learning.

You have been mixing from the age of ELEVEN- that is an age to be very proud of to start your musical roots, how did this come about? What are your first memories of the music that speared you on to take up mixing - and more importantly how did you turn to hardcore?

I first started out because a friend of the family brought over his decks, this was where I first become interested. From here I was shown how to mix. First I started to mix all the old skool drum and bass, then I moved to the house and trance which then took me onto the hard house hard trance, as time went on I eventually rested up on the Hardcore.

You play a well rounded hardcore set- always good to hear! What do you mainly look out for when purchasing your vinyl/ MP3’s?

I’m not really that fussy with the tracks I buy as long as they sound good and keep the energy flowing then I’ll buy it. At the moment my favourite labels consist of next generation, quosh, thin n crispy, and essential platinum.

Do you ever pre plan your sets, or just pack your bag knowing (as all god dj’s do) what tunes you want to play then ‘free style it’ live on the night?

I never pre plan sets as to what tune is going in after the previous one but more to the style I’m going to be playing from there on in its done by the ear I try to give the crowd what they want to hear. A good set and some big tunes to rave to.

You play a blinder every time on Happy Nation radio. I have witnessed you playing out live I think from the off, with Happy Nation. To say that you are going from strength to strength is an understatement, how do you feel about playing out live as apposed to in the bedroom- after all the two are totally different! How did you adapt to this level?

HAHA that was an experience I will never forget. Playing out to a crowd for the first time was an immense experience. Before going on I was trying to psyche myself up for it but nerves ended up getting the best of me in the end I just went up there and tried doing the best I can, the crowd reaction was unreal, it’s completely different to playing from the bedroom you get to feel the energy of the ravers.

You have now played back to back with several different artists from happy Nation. Do have any favourites that you would like to tell us about? *wink wink

I don’t have a favourite so to say as everyone I have gone back to back with so far has given it 110% and given it all they got to please the crowd. Playing a set with you DHD was my first time playing out to a crowd and that one will always be remembered, as with DJ Waltza he was playing out some of his own produced tracks which gave the set a nice twist to what everybody else was playing that night and a great set was played. As with the last set I played was with the sparkle and I feel that was definitely a top set and we played to our full potential, the crowd enjoyed it as did I.

Donkey B, being a prospective up and coming dj you as we all have at some stage been hungry for your progression up the hardcore ladder. Would you say that the scene today does enough in helping people such as your self i.e. play out and get heard of etc?

There is so much talent out there at the moment it does make it hard to get heard of, I’m glad I found happy nation they’ve given me the chance to progress. Playing out to a crowd is an experience that I always wanted to do and now that I have its something I never want to lose. In the hope to get heard of I guess we’ve just got to keep reaching out to new people and hope for the best.

We spoke a while ago and I asked you if you have any ideas on the production tip. You said that this is defiantly an avenue that you will be persuading very soon! Have there been any updates on this front?
Do you have lots of wicked ideas for future hardcore tunes? Please feel free to share with us!

With the help of friends I have now got a good understanding of what I need and how to go about it so hopefully yes you will be hearing some of my own productions very soon. I get loads of ideas in my head for tracks the hardest thing though for me is getting the sounds from my head to out of the speakers, with time and patience hopefully this is a skill I will soon pick up and master.

Donkey B! I find myself with many more questions to ask but sadly have to draw the interview to a close!
Many thanks- would you like to leave us with your ‘final thought/ words of the core?”

I hope I see you all soon and keep an eye out for me. Lets keep on raving in a safe manner and lets spread the love of the music!!

PLUR
