MC MACCA - The Interview >
The Interview- MC Macca
Macca-MC

I have been looking forward to hosting this interview as I have known James for a while now.
Hungry for hardcore as he is his microphone, this guy a relatively new MC to the industry but as you can tell this inspiring performer has come on leaps and bounds from his days at Club Square 1 and other like minded events in and around Northampton.

I first met Macca at Dj Scottie's own event- Elements if I remember correctly, staged at Daventry Leisure Centre. A medium capacity event - with its very own vibe and good crowed.

Macca boasts good showmanship and awesome one to one crowed interaction; he certainly knows what he’s doing when it comes to his live stage shows. All you have to do is take a look at his previous and current bookings to see that he’s a credible MC....

‘Macca, you have been around for a while now formally starting out in 2006. What are your views on how the scene has changed since then to now?
Do you see the current scene’s evolution as a positive step for hardcore and what views do you hold for its further progression? `

I think change is good, every time I go out I hear change, be it djs, mcs, tunes its a vital part of keeping hardcore fresh and out there.
the way hardcore has evolved can only be good, putting more different styles of hardcore out there can only draw more people in be it commercially or underground.

‘You have come a very long way in a relative short space of time, this is something to be very proud of!- As a pre- up and coming MC and taking more main stage bookings would you say that you have had a ‘struggle’ to get where you are today?
Also what are your views on the up and coming circuit? / is there / can there be more done to help an MC that has just started out?’

It's not been easy believe! iv not passed up one opportunity to mc yet being it a house party, a rave in a pub, anything comes up I'm there! I'm still hungry 2 progresses further in hardcore! iv had and have my dry spots, its hard when ya not playing out for a couple of weeks because all I want to do is mc. its hard trying 2 stay in everyone's face all the time when ya not getting booked at some of the bigger events as you don't get the exposure ya need to stay out there and sometimes fall behind, but things always pick up.
I love seeing new talent smashin it when I go out and more and more of it is cropping up and of really high quality too!

‘On that note - what advice can you offer any up and coming MC in the hardcore scene today?’

don't be afraid to let hardcore be hardcore because sometimes its just better that way, be yourself and don't take criticism to heart, just prove them wrong

‘You are now on the main stream circuit performing up and down the U.K! - This is most defiantly exciting stuff!
You must have a few stories from being on the road...Where would you say some of the most ‘up for it` crowds that you have performed to be? And do you notice a change in crowds from place to place?
Could you state that you have a ‘favourite’ place to perform in!!!? ` (Feel free to add events too!)

Well fusion is the biggest rave IV mc’d at to date and the atmosphere down there was immense, loved it. Was also lucky enough to mc at a couple of free formations and the atmosphere in there was wicked, really enjoy free formation. This might sound strange but one of my favourite place’s to mc is at the hi skool of hardcore after party’s in oc’s Birmingham because the buzz down in that little room is electric and sound system is quality. its not so much the venue, its the ravers coming for extra stomping hours after htid or uproar and they r well up 4 it still.

‘Lyrically from the start of your carrier, what has been your main musical influence for the microphone? `

Me, my life, my feelings, my troubles. Also watching mc’s @ work has made me want 2 be a mc, the buzz they create and how they make the dance floor react, I wanted in on that. But more importantly hardcore.

‘Do you have a book or pad that you actually write your lyrics down in?
I was talking to MC Enemy a while ago and he was saying how this is an important factor for what we do. I have only just started to jot my lyrical content down prior to this conversation. We are all different, do you have any different techniques that you use?!`

I write my lyrics on a4 paper, I use the top to write down my ideas, link words together and then start the initial rhyme. if I'm happy with the finished product ill learn it but many rhymes I leave it as I get stuck on them but I keep the piece of paper for ideas for another rhyme another day. once iv learnt a lyric I use cards about 3" by 4" and write the first line of a rhyme on them, about 7 or 8 to a card and have 10 cards. I Sometimes use these cards when I'm mcing to help me remember what rhyme I've done and to prompt myself.

‘A man of many talents Macca has also been producing with Track master music!
Would you mind telling us a little more on this? Also do you have many new projects within this field under wraps? Any you can share with us?. .. `

Yeah trackmaster music consists of do cruze, dj breaks, mc friction and myself and it’s a brand new digital and vinyl label soon to be releasing some wicked hardcore so watch this space!!
I've been busy making tracks with breaks which have been signed to thin and crispy, rave stomper and feel the pressure. Also I've done 2 wicked tracks with Darwin and Obie hardcore solider and musical endeavour. Hardcore solider is a full on freeform track with vocals from Obie and myself but were not sure yet what label will be signing this yet. Musical endeavour also vocals from obie and myself and will be appearing on the new hardcore underground 3 that will be out later on in the year.
Been doing a lot of feature work recently with the likes of Himbo, Paul Manx, hoj, Scott ell, Douglas and fretman all using my voice in there tracks.
Also going to be doing more stuff with cruze breaks and friction soon so keep an ear out.

'What style of hardcore is your preferred type to mc too? Your crowed hype is good, and your adaptability within the core is pretty wide spread as many MC’s have to be in this day and age. Have you found your tastes in hardcore change at all?`

I'm really in to my darker edged stuff but if it sounds good then I like it. I can appreciate all different forms of hardcore as a raver, but as far mcing goes freeform is my love as I enjoy listening 2 what's going on as well as doing what I do, as I mc in and around the tunes not over the top of them. I can really get lost in freeform its amazing.

‘I have to ask you this! - Favourite Dj to date that you enjoy working with? `
(Super star or friend gives us a blast!)

I don’t have a favourite as such, I like working with every dj but I do work particularly well with breaks, solution, jb-c, clodhopper, Paul Manx, cruze and delite, but as super stars go I don’t mind doing a bit of mark smith when I get the chance.

‘Where do you see your self- say in five years time, along with the hardcore scene? `

Mmm id like to see my self on every stage up and down the country, week in week out doing what I love, continuing to produce hardcore and having all the djs play my tracks.

‘Macca sadly I have to draw this interview to a close food is a calling...`

I’m sure that you’ll agree that Macca is a testament to all MC’s out there due to his rapid and continued progression within the hardcore scene. Check out his profile page for many more bookings right through the year!
We wish you all the very best in your future, and don’t forget when you see us out at a rave a big shout to the crew!!!OI OI!!

Macca thank you very much for your time, and words today.
