-The Interview- MC Philma,H.V EXCLUSIVE!!!:)
MC Philma- setting the pace 2009.

When I first started out MCing I spent allot of my time travelling to places such as Milton Keynes and Northampton.

It was at one of my first proper bookings that I met allot of up and coming MC artist’s.
The next artist I met here for the first time that night. He remains top of his game in and around the microphone, and a passion for the hardcore music that shines like the sun.

Non other- than the MC Philma has been MCing for around the three year mark now. Starting off at Who’s Hardcore and then taking a hand at running an event by the name of: Hi Energy at the Beacon Bar in M.K. Working closely with the mighty MC Caution MC Philma is back with a vengeance to set the pace - his way - for 2009. I wanted to go and get more of a low down on where he’s at with lyrics and also how he’s feeling on the build up to High Voltage the coming week.

First off, MC Philma- thank you for your time today sir!-

How has your 2009 been so far- during this mayhemic time of the Credit Crunch?

“Well I must say it started off very well for me in the industry I’m in but has since slowed up so much I mite as well be going backwards! But with a little bit of luck things should be back on track come April when the financial year is over as everybody shall have they're yearly budget back”

You have taken a little while off the scene due to work (last year) - do you feel that you have missed much in this period?

“Well 6months is a long time and as far as missing anything it would generally be my friends in the scene. I can keep up to date with the new material coming out by switching on my trusty laptop!!! but missing all them nights out and the sets you get told about, hats what I missed! But you have to earn a crust these days so it boils down to doing what has to be done!”

Talking of last year- we again at High Voltage Intense Christmas party!- How did your night go?

“Well Xmas is the most enjoyable time of year for me as I have a big family, I’m extremely family orientated by the way! We always have lots of people round and have a blast. Ether we are opening presents at 5am thanks to my little brother Jack or I’m cooking Xmas dinner for 14 people, I will always have a smile on my face!”

Straight back into this year and you are averaging around 3-4 gigs a month- TOP STUFF! Could you tell us about a few of these please, and what have you got on the horizon for the rest of 2009?

"Well there is 1 or 2 I’m really looking forward to, both for b2t,1 with Xtreme Energy at the Sanctuary in Brum, the other is for core addicts nose n lips at the Gatecrasher. For me, MCing at the sanctuary has always been on my must do list as its a brilliant venue and hosts the best there is. With the event at Gatecrasher, I’ve never been to the place but just on what I’ve been told I’m on a high others in my calendar have got be who’s hardcore reunion as its where I started and I see that as my home from home. But not forgetting the 21st for High Voltage, if you have seen the line-up then you know what I’m talking about. Sure to go off!"

It has come to our attention that you also spin the wheel’s of steel too. . .Do you own your own personal set of decks/CDJ’s, or do you just Hi Jack Skyva’s when you can!;)

“No & yes! - I do have my own set up at home, decks n mixer plus an old CDJ ,but I am looking at purchasing sum CDJ400’s with a nice DJM 400mixer to go with it, anything else in the bedroom is a waste of hardware!-The thing with me D.Jing is I like to play the kind of hardcore everyone seems to have forgotten about,2000-05 is where I’m happy. But with the occasional new tune here and there! It makes sense to me that if the music was wicked then, slam the damn brakes on, hit reverse with a nice j-turn and take it a different direction because its starting to sound very samey bar a select few producers! ” lol

Promotion to mixing then of course the microphone!- Probably a bit of a tuff one- is there one which you prefer more than the others!!?

“Well to be fair MCing comes top because you can't quite beat that buzz when your on the stage with nowhere to hide, although I probably enjoy mixing equally as much your still restricted to the D.J booth whereas when MCing I have the run of the place! As for promotion, in my opinion if you want to promote events then promote, but you cant promote D.J and mc otherwise you cant reach full potential in any!”

Have you ever tried your hand at producing or put your vocals to a track?

“Well funny you mention that because I have been thinking about it allot but I do.nt want to have it engineered by some one else I'd like to be responsible for the tracks on the whole, but,it takes time and money to be able to learn and master making music with the right equipment! But keep your ears open as you never know whats round the corner eh!I've had people ask about putting my vocals in there productions on many occasions but never got round to doing it really.workin as a shopfitter doesn't help the cause but it pays the bills!”

Back to the hype of the mic- do you write your lyrical material down, or do you have any set ways of remembering lyrics?

“Yeah I do write down lyrics and memorise them as best I can but as u would know sometimes u do have moments where your memory goes blank, if I memorise the first line I can get the rest but its always remembering the first line!” lol
*I have the opposite problem! Wawa!

We have already mentioned above- MC Caution, a true MC if there ever was one. Is there any one else that you really enjoy working with on a back to back basis!?

“Well my good friend Merlin, from Brum! We have been mates for a while so it goes with out saying, we work well together. I’ve also MC’d with Sid P quite a few times. In all honesty though I could MC b2b with anyone as long as there’s respect between the 2 of you it will go well. Keep the crowd and the D.J happy then I’m happy!!”

Moving over to your events page, it seems to be looking verry promising for you all in all, receiving booking from the likes of prestigious promotions such as: Extreme Energy, Disciples Of Hardcore, B2T,Core Addicts Nose & Lips and of course High Voltage- Where do you see your self say in another 2-4 years time?

“Well again in all honesty - I’d be happy to be in the same position as what I am today. I’m not looking to be the no.1 - win awards and all that, I’m happy being myself and having a good time with the ravers. If I’m not on stage then I’m on the dance floor. I love hardcore with a passion so the music comes before me. Having said that if I were to be offered bigger bookings I would take them
but I wouldn't let it change who I am. Also have a few D.Jing sets under way because I’ve always mixed before MCing so its good fun to get behind the decks!”

How are you feeling about High Voltage next week on the 21st!??

“Well I’m looking forward to coming back again as I’ve MC'd there 3 maybe 4 times and I think they have a really good little family vibe going on down there which is brilliant for an MC point of view. The H.V ravers are always guaranteed to be stomping as well! Big ups definitely go out to Maria and Paul for what they've created!”

Can you offer the High Voltage crew some Philma words of hardcore encouragement to rally them to the dance floor!??;)

“Well if it was left to me alone then I’d have to say,,,, If your a true hardcore raver who loves the scene, the music, the people everything and anything to do with hardcore, then this is the place you want to be. Good music, good people and an electric atmosphere! All else I can say is lets get it on!”

And on that note-*the clock strikes….!!!
MC Philma- SADLY- very sadly it is that time for me on a Friday afternoon where the food fest is calling, and it sounds like Morley’s to me….
I( would like to take this time in thanking you today for your words, and more importantly your time.
And ALSO for completing my first live on - line interview, via MSN!- BIG UP’S!!!!: )

We look forward to seeing you next Saturday down at High Voltage at The Angel in Bedford!

Dave Hill / MC D.H.D

(Promoters wanting to book Philma, contact via P.M for D.S.I or Facebook many thanks)
