Is Ibiza dying???
i have been out ere since the middle of may now, and i cant help but think ibiza may not be the clubbin capital of the world within the next 5 years!!!

last week, the ibizian heat week was here and various nites(concept, frantic, bionic etc) brought their fanbase over for a week in the sun...
due to some awful organisation and a piss poor promotor for ibizian heat, this week was a complete shambles...
firstly a pool party which was on their itinery was stopped due to noise complaints and the police were brought in...another pool party that week was also stopped for the same reason..

the spanish governments have bought in new noise regulations and laws which is takin the fun out of ibiza and is deterring tourists from comin over as they have the impression it has changed from previous years.

im havin fun over ere but seems to be that the clubbin industry isnt wanted over ere by the lopcal government and authorites...it seems that they would prefer ibiza to be a cultural and tourist attraction...
their main income is through people like us gracin ibiza with our presence and partyin like we know how...
without us, i cant see how they can generate as much income through a differnet clientele!!

what are you thoughts??

To be fair though there is a lot of d*ckheads that travel to San An, hang around the West end, get lairey, cause trouble and basically put a bad name on English people.

No wonder the authorities are getting p*ssed off with it.

Im sure the government is just as corrupt as we think it is and will soon start making money from the clubbing industry again once they realise that families arent where the £££ is. Amen.

Ibiza will never die people will always have the need to go out and dance the night away high on drugs we have been doing it since the start of time when we were all cave hippies. So dont worry there will alway be a party to go to even if it is an Illegal rave !!

I think if you look at the bigger picture, it's not just Ibiza that's getting hit by all this.

Look at the 90's, and you can see the UK Top 40 was dominated by dance music, and by the year 2000, digital labels and home recording equipment/computers etc became something that anyone could have/do/run/own/use. Since then, the dance music scene has been saturated... There are just as many (if not more) fans of dance music, but thousands of shit labels/tunes/producers/etc to sift through to find those hidden gems.

This has had a huge affect on clubbing, where the same scenario mirrored with having thousands of shit clubs/nights/DJ's to sift through to find that 'perfect' party.... This is without mentioning the whole genre-splitting that's happened.... Tech-House, Minimal, Electro, Techno, Acid, Progressive, etc... Err, isn't it all just "House"?

Anyway, I digress... My point is, that there are so many people confused by it all these days, that nobody knows where to go or what to spend their money on... Just look at NYE... Every year, all promoters claim to have the biggest and best party, and so everyone holds out to the last minute to choose, until suddenly it's too late and all the parties flop.

Just look at Glastonbury (I know, shit line-up) only selling out on the last day... Then look at Wild In The Country, no cancelled due to poor ticket sales.

As for Ibiza, there are just so many contributing factors....

MONEY - The prices go up every year, and it's pretty much out of control.. Not to mention our lovely credit-crunch

POLITICS - A lot of clubs are owned by english people... Fair enough, but the Spanish gov can't like this much.

FASHION - Once something becomes 'cool' it becomes 'popular' which then makes it 'uncool' by the people who first made it 'cool'

SATURATION - So many nights to choose from it can almost be overwhelming

So... Dance music has just as many goers, it's just that there is more and more choice now, and that can do nothing but spread things out a bit thin on the ground.

Well that's my rant over... After all that, it has to be said, I fucking love my job and life in the industry, and that's why I do it, and always will. night night! ;)

P.S. No matter what people say, Ibiza still rocks!

It's ridiculas at the moment anyways with only 1.2 euros to the pound and the clubs charging festival ticket prices to get in and drinks being the same price that would get you 2/3 of the same drink in london!

I guess many people may ask - why bother - and just spend their money going somewhere just as party, less commercialy known and a lot cheaper.
