Love Parade Essen 2007 float application
We are ready for your Float Application
Dear friends of Loveparade,

It's that time of the year again! Time to apply to run a float on the Loveparade, to be held 25.08.2007 in Essen.

The Loveparade has run up her sails, caught a fresh wind and dropped anchor in the Ruhrgebiet, the urban sprawl centring on the western German city of Essen. We are delighted to be co-writing (with you) another chapter in the history of the Loveparade and the Ruhr!

As always, the event will revolve around you and your floats. It is you and your music that will be pulsing in the hearts, spirits and bodies of hundreds of thousands of people. To secure one of the hotly-contested places on the Parade you will need to all your creativity and a packed programme of exciting music. We wish all of you the best of luck. We look forward to joining forces with you and hoisting the Flag of Love on August 25th, in the name of electronic music.

As a general guide: only club culture agents (individuals or companies that are involved all year round in the club scene, e.g. clubs, labels, event organisers, magazines, booking agencies) may operate a float on Loveparade 2007!

There are two options open to prospective float operators:
1. You apply to operate your own float.
2. You apply to operate a float provided by Loveparade for a fee.

There is no entry fee as such!!

Have fun with your applications … and good luck!
Your Loveparade Team.

Here an Article of a german Newspaper :

The Loveparade… once, it has been a techno parade, initiated, organised and managed by the techno legends Westbam and Dr Motte. It was a constant part of Berlin. Until 2000, it was a political event and was supported by the city. From 2001 to 2003, the Loveparade was taking place without the support; in 2004 and 2005 the parade was canceled, because there hasn’t been enough capital.

In 2006, there was a new sponsor: McFit. Rainer Schaller, CEO of McFit, became the CEO of the Loveparade, too. With this new leadership, the parade lost its spirit, which had been created by Dr Motte, but the techno szene was optimistic about the sponsor.

In 2007, the senate of Berlin did not accept the loveparade again. A few years ago, the Loveparade team would have battled until the end for the Loveparade in Berlin, which is its only homebase.
Rainer Schaller reacted in another way, because he is a businessman. He left Berlin to change the location of the Loveparade. The Loveparade homepage says: “The Loveparade has run up her sails, caught a fresh wind and dropped anchor in the Ruhrgebiet, the urban sprawl centring on the western German city of Essen.”
Apart from the fact, that the decision of the senate is a mistake in my eyes, because the Loveparade is a cultural highlight for the electronic music szene worldwide, the followed mistake of Rainer Schaller to organise a Loveparade in another city is much gravely.
Thereby, this legendary event is fully commercialised without taking care of the old character of the parade. What is a Loveparade without the ”Straße des 17.Juni”, without chilling out in the “Tiergarten”, without the Brandenburger Tor and especially without the finish at the Siegessäule?
Another mistake is the choice of the city Essen. The actual news of the homepage says: “It is you and your music that will be pulsing in the hearts, spirits and bodies of hundreds of thousands of people”. The problem: the central city of essen has already been overcrowded during the Fifa World Cup 2006, and there have only been 100.000 people at the public views. How should this city contain a few hundreds of thousands?
Additional to that, Rainer Schaller succeeded in canceling another german techno rave. The reincarnation move in Hannover would have taken place at the same day. The problem is that there are the same sponsors, which only give their money for one event. The Loveparade is more important, so the Reincarnation Move is canceled because of financial problems.

Altogether, Rainer Schaller damaged a lot of the german techno szene and I hope that there will be a recession in Essen, so that they try to bring the Loveparade back to Berlin in 2008, even though it was announced to stay in the Ruhrgebiet for the next five years. In my opinion, the Ruhrgebiet is the iceberg for the MS Loveparade and it will sink, if it does not come back to Berlin.
