‘The Interview’ - D.N.A- On The Move. 2009

The dance scene has always held a firm hand and keen eye for new entertainers and individuals bringing something new to the table in any shape or dimension.

Back a few years ago, in the day’s of the Sanctuary (rip) there were a succession of stage dancers - Children Of The Bass to name but one.

Along with the fast paced times of 2009,promoters have a selection to choose from when it comes to dancers and by today’s standards performers. So what separates sheik from unique? I wanted to find out more, and after witnessing the stage presence of this rather new and improved dance troop at an event I attended, thought it best to go direct to the source.

Unleashing the new dance force, some one who can be seen all over from Vauxhall to Lester Square to all over the U.K - it’s time to get in tune today!- Candy Floss & her D.N.A:

First off for the people that may not know…! Can you please tell us about D.N.A as a collective?

What you’re about & what you represent for the music as a whole?

“ We are an all round entertainments agency supplying everything form dancers/stilt walkers/circus acts/fire artists/angle grinders/trapeze artists and so much more to clubs, festivals, corporate events and private parties.”

Could you tell us how & when D.N.A was first created?

“Well funny enough we was originally called Force 2, yes I no its very lame ha-ha. Basically myself and best friend Arna Crawford started (Force2) in September 2007…We soon changed our name to DNA (Dance with New Attitude) we decided on this as its true we wanted to bring some new attitude to the dance scene at that moment in time there was too many politics within the dance scene and we thought it was about time to change that. Hence why we are now called DNA. We started getting recognised in January 2008 and then we become an entertainments agency in May 2008 due to the amount of bookings that we was receiving and the kind of work not just dancing but stilt walkers/fire artists and angle grinders or company was growing rapidly….this was mainly due to the booking Ibiza Underground.”

If you could please, tell us a little of your 2008 - what was N.Y.E like for you? And what event did you end up in at the end of you’re your travels?! : )

“2008 was a very busy year for us with our first Hardcore booking with Ballistic Beats- these guys are great the best hardcore event we have ever danced for – we love these guys….We also did Zoo Festival as DNA and also Ibiza. NYE we had 2 bookings this night and I had the pleasure of dancing at both of them the joys of running the bookings you can be at both so I ended up at the coronet for Ibiza Underground top night ….8 DNA’ers ended up on stage for around 45 minutes we are always full of energy and never want to get off the stage its great.”

Slamming straight into 2009! How busy have you been since the New Year, and how busy are you

right now…? (You can include your self along with D.N.A slots too!)

“How busy are we well put it this way we have 4 bookings in one night quite a bit….we have secured quite a few residences in 2009 including Ballistic Beats, Exclusive Parties, SOUND nightclub, Bellisshma, Dance Aid, Party PR bookings (there are many of these bookings throughout the year), I Love House, Heavy Weight House to name a few I also dance for contagious dance crew so on top of my DNA bookings I do a few bookings for Contagious as well including Global Weekender.”

You really have performed at many a high profile stage! Can you please tell us about a memorable event that you have experienced? (This could be the biggest to the best event you have done, or a cheeky little rave with awesome sound and all time good vibes!): )

“God there have been so many which one shall I pick I loved all Ibiza Underground the crowds were amazing the music was top class and the management team were ace. It was a clubbing experience but also like a rave so it was a great mixture of both really. Also Epidemik’s are my all time favourites- you have everything form Hardcore / Old Skool / Drum and Bass and even a House room- I love Epidemiks Grant is a legand”

D.N.A has recently taken a step up from dancers to D.N.A Entertainment! - This sounds extremely exiting could you tell us more on this please, and what services you provide!?

“Yes that’s right as I stated before we become DNA Entertainment in May 2008. We started off just booking dancers, fire artists and angle grinders we now supply all of this but also trapeze artists, Human statues, snake charmers, PR Girls/guys, Shot girls/guys, Models, Skater girls, Burlesque dancers, magicians, guest list girls/guys and any new crazy and exciting entertainment.”

On a bit of a solo tip- you can be seen dancing in the hardcore arena, to the hard dance, Funky

House through to the good old, Old Skool sounds! Do you have a preferred music to perform to?

“To be honest I am a hardcore/hard house girl, I first started dancing to this so I will always love it…..but I do like a bit of Drum and Bass sometimes, I mainly dance to electro house now I found it really, really hard at first to slow my dance moves down as I was and still am a very energetic dancer my nick name used to be called Energizer bunny as I never used to stop all night long lol…..”

You hold proud residencies in London - what events have you really enjoyed performing at

Especially on a hardcore tip!?;)

“My fave hardcore event has to be Ballistic Beats with out a doubt the music is brilliant and Luke and the team make you feel part of the team as well amazing guys to work with.”

In the world of music, are there any other styles that you like and would like to perform too- more so in the near future!? (You can mention hardcore here, and that you would like more bookings here!)

“Yes I would deffinatly like some more hardcore bookings as much as I love my House music and its very glam I want to get down and dirty in the hardcore vibe LOL….It's in my blood and im full of energy that I need to release. Throw some more Ballistic Beats events!!!!”

You have credibly performed on the Legendary Club Town T.V live with Old Skool LEGENDS The

Rat Pack
!! OI OI!- Tell us how this came off and what it was like!!?- It looks like you had a blast all the way!

“Oh my god! It was amazing - I LOVE RATPACK WOOOO!! Basically DNA perform for Dance Aid which is all in aid of charity and Wayne Eledridge who runs it with his business partner Mete also run Club Town TV….Well Wayne asked if I would like to dance with Ratpack…..Everson and Mark are amazing I love to dance with these guys they are at many Epidemik events, and I can guarantee that when they are on stage you can not get me or the DNA crew off hahaha!!! We kinda take over….I remember I was clubbing at Raindnace and Everson saw me at the front with the crowd while they was performing, of course I would be at the front…and he told me to get up on stage with them haha! - Well I do dance with them quite a bit that I must say was my best clubbing experience being asked by Ratpack to dance for them the crowd was loving it I always like to get the crowd going aswell…..”

On the dancing tip- you deliver a first class performance each and every time, delivering high levels of energy for the crowed and you’re at one with the music. Your fellow dancers also deliver the same calibre stage shows - what do you look for when hiring and picking new recruits for D.N.A?

“Our main thing is personality….and dance moves of course….we are a very friendly professional and happy team and we only employee people who are on the same vibe as us ….we hold auditions at events and we also like to meet our entertainers on a normal day go for coffee and actually be friends with our staff rather then just have them working for us we are a family hehe!”

What is your biggest rush to date!?- (If you could tell us of a really nice - powerful memory from your time on stage with D.N.A!?)

“Best group stage rush would have to be at Epidemik @Ministry of Sound when the Prodigy Tribute band were playing we was on the stage for a whole hour but before that I think a drum and bass DJ was on so we was on the stage for a whole hour before then I believe Billy bunter got on after the Prodigy band so I think in all we was on stage for nearly 3 hours solid between the 5 of us god that was AMAZINGGGGGG”

Can you offer any words of kind advice to any aspiring up and coming dancer’s out there!?

“Yes – Be nice….be yourself…..Dance your heart out…..DNA are always looking for new dancers to join our team if you are interested please email me Claire@dna-live.co.uk send me a recent picture and a CV if you have one and I will send you an application form….”

Your time on stage must have brought you some funny stories…!! Are there any that you can share with us please? (Please don’t be shy- and also feel free in changing names to protect identities !!!); )

“ Hahaha !- Yes well I remember I was dancing for Ballistic Beats actually and the podium was quite high but the lights was shinning so bright in my face that I thought I was in the middle of the podium it wasn’t in till I spun round and ended up sliding off the podium I realised oooopppps im now on the floor haha with a bruised leg haha that was embarrassing”

My gosh!- Sadly and I say that whole heartedly, that time has once again for me to depart, and tend to an ever calling MSN! ! !. . .Just before we sign off, can you leave us with any words of hardcore wisdom please- for the crew!?

“Hardcore ravers forever!!!! - Never let it go!!!!!
