New Podcast Server For 2009

Anyway you may or may not know about this but we now have our own Podcast server. This will upload all future mixes to, all future radio shows and means you can also grab everything through the iTunes store.

To access it via the iTunes store simply search for Elev8Records.

Or if you don't have iTunes, simple visit our website: elev8records.com

Here you can listen as well as download all our content....

iTunes Users

As we are new to iTunes we don't yet have any reviews, please feel free to leave us some comment as it will really help our presence on iTunes and make all my hours of uploading, recording and mixing feel worth it. We will greatly appreciate your efforts.

Cheers

Tim,

This really is a no brainer gentlemen (and ladies).

People grow up, their priorities change and they move on. The guys who run the site have noticed that and are obviously trying to address it by using the spotters system and cards which have worked well for them in the past.

As long as the spotters do what they are supposed to do and the promoters cast their net wider into the 'new faces' then all will be well in the land of DSI.

Just for the record: IMHO as a promotional tool Facebook really isn't all that and certainly isn't a patch on this site. As has already been said, it is only really any good for people that you already know and unless you can develop a 'must have' facebook app which also attracts new people, that is all it ever will be to you.

Maybe someone could pursuade Paul to upgrade the DSI facebook app he has developed, I'm sure if someone explains to John et al that facebook app owners get some or all of the advertising revenue generated by their apps they may even offer him some sort of assistance with the endevour (although I'd assume they already did with version 1).

Although of course he is a muppet!

I don't think so. The performance overhead created by the adverts would completely trash most phones.

I must say though, I think that would be a distinct step in the right direction. I guess the trick would be to do it in such a way that it didn't have a negative impact on advertising revenues. Although if worked the right way I guess it could end up having a positive impact on them.

Yes... a mobile version / especially an iPhone app (hint hint) would def increase traffic back to the site and get people talking again and no doubt increase advertising potential, I'm sure the lads at DSI have already thought about this.

As for other comment on site updates / changes that is good to hear...

As for working out how many people are coming to an event on Facebook 9 times out of 10 the site just crashes (FB NOT DSI) when I try to invite people anyway.

I just feel the site has lost its edge and pretty much like the internet in general has aloud to much shit to filter through!!

I always found the listings were one of the best features on the site, now promoters seem they would rather basque in the glory of having 200 people say they are attending an event on Facebook, and then only 15 people actually turning up, than post there listings on here!!

So what we get, apart from the big boys who use the site regulary still, is the option of Joe Bloggs having a shit @ Secret Location or staying at home and watching Dancing on Ice, Rock and Roll.

Keep going lads, coz times will change again.

In the words of Wayne - Put the event on and they will come

Take more than a little wip round that's for sure.

The main cost is time and time = money.

You've got to design it, write it, trail it out, test it, bug fix it.

The performance overhead created by the adverts

Sorry, I should be more specific. The main hit to the performance of this site isn't so much the adverts but the amount of groovey AJAX stuff going on in the background. In short the javascript and server calls occuring 'behind' the pages make the site seem alot slower. That, combined the the flash ads is what causes the site to freeze up momentarily on most peoples PC's (it is also what would bring all but the most advanced mobiles web browser to its knees.

Without looking at the backend code of the site I'd say a good bullet list for a starting point would be (If they have the legacy code to past versions - pre AJAX - of the site):

  • Update the database calls to reflect any more recent changes in the underlying datastructure
  • Separate the various area's (i.e. live chat and group posts).
  • Rescale the UI to a more mobile friendly resolution
  • Integrate light weight (non flash) adverts
  • Add a very light-weight AJAX notification system (a mobile could handle a limited bit of AJAX easily as long as JavaScript was enabled on the users phone) obviously the mini-site would have to work without a fuss if JavaScript were not enabled
  • Provide a simplified inbox as the end users communication hub.

Well, theres a foundation for where you would need it to be, whether anyone can be bothered to do it or not is another matter entirely.

I'm still on here, and post occaionally, DJ Mixes and DJ world mainly.

But I did go through a phase of not being on here at all, and for that, I now have a 748 page inbox.

Which is a bit of a nightmare lol.

about DSI on mobile, i have practically had to live on my mobile whilst not online at home for over a year. it can load up but it takes a heavy toll on my nokia N95 in loadin cause the pages are quite large. for some reason it would not allow me to log in, and that was very frustrating. i woulda come under that group who never logged in but still used the site every week. it has been indispensible to me for the night scene.

im a recent facebooker, and comparing the two, well, to me they dont. DSI is much better for its purpose. Also, as mentioned before, the totally random topics that seemed to find there way on here is overwhelming- im not sayin dont have them, but if they are headlined like its something important, you open it to find its just some random comment about two people on the other side of the world!
how your gonna encourage people to just head their messages accurately i dont know, but if anyone has any idea please bring it forward. perhaps its just as simple as putting a little banner thing up anytime someone goes to type a message? worth a try...

im getting back into my spotting now and, personally i will put them here first to encourage this sites use. im no pro, but i take a pretty good shot and i think if more spotters kept to a policy like that, numbers of people coming here would mushroom! thats just me thinking... def need cards, soooo important. im gonna order now.
