Big Tunes

Click below for this weeks big tunes!

Yakine - La Cueva - The flying frenchman's new effort on the Supplement Facts imprint is a absolute bomb and has been receiving support from all the big players. Luciano, Matthew Dear, Lauhaus and Julien Chaptal have been giving this some serious airtime.

Freaky percussion, a throbbing bassline and flicking synths make this a true dancefloor weapon.

Matias Aguayo - Ay Ay Ay - After seeing his set at the prestigious Tape Klubnacht in Berlin I was sold. 4 Hours of blinding savage stripped back techno with live vocals really was a spectacle. The release on Kompakt is a whole different kettle of fish, but one of the albums of the year in my book.

A real multi-cultural feel with haunting continental vocals, rumbling ethno-percussion this affirms Aguayo as one of the most unconventional and boundary pushing producers. The LP slots into no genre, instead a hovers above many while it delights your ears from beginning to end.

My key track Me Vuelvo Loca a galloping runaway track rich with constant hispanic chattering and a sturdy rhasping bass. download.mixmag.net

Joy Orbison - Hyph Mngo - This track will not go away, it is one of the standout tunes of 2009. With Dubstep reinventing itself of late, leaving the horrible wobbling tripe that it was spewing out behind.

Artists such as Shackleton, Martyn and now Joy Orbision have been gaining admirers from key individuals from the world of Techno, House and Electro. With a really nostalgic feel its expertly uses a diced up Janet Jackson vocal, with an awe inspring rising melody bolted on top of a 4 x 4 beat that lends itself perfectly to an oldschool garage and house vibe.

This is a definite for the crate.

Ost & Kjex - Continental Lover - Surfing between house and disco Ost & Kjex have released a beautiful new release. With live performance of this track complete with a full choir have been leaving audiences stunned with its choral excellence.

This track features on Tama Sumo's Panorama Bar 02 mix which is brilliant but it will be featured on their upcoming LP. Grab Tama's whole mix, its a fine body of work and features a Top 5 track I mentioned a few weeks back - U & I by house guru Prosumer.

Solomun - Story of My Life - Taken from his new LP 'Dance Baby' takes you on a strings infused journey that delights the ears. This might be a future deep house classic and the combination of looping vocals rising instrumental samples makes this a really epic closing track for the LP.

A suprising new direction has been taken by Solomun on this release and I for one am not complaining. Great work.
