Too late mate, DSI is dead - Mixmag takeover was the final straw methinks!

It's a great great shame, this was a fantastic site. What with the likes of Facebollox, it's day I believe is finally over...

facebook is wank, cant get on with it, have had to removed myself from 99% of the groups due to getting spammed, have to keep blocking poxy applications for shit like your start sign is this or your moon colour is this, i couldnt give a shit about that crap, i think DSI can be revi=ved BUT it has to be aimed at the new generation....

mind you im getting too old for all this now and would rather be fishing lol

I think the thing with dsi was, when it was big, there were no other sites you could find pictures of yourself in a club on for free. Spotters took photos, handed out cards, then you came on and joined because you wanted to see the pics. Now you can see photos anywhere, the novelty has worn off. This site revolved around spotters and being spotted, that was the whole point of it. Now the point of it seems to be adverts. They sold their soul if you ask me.

I initially stopped coming on here ass much, when the chat box appeared, it used to really slow down my browser and got on my nerves.

But as I said previously, facebook seems to have taken over for now.... Until something succeeds facebook, that is.

Hello by the way :D

I think that's a perfect explanation of how it's gone wrong...

hi there stranger

;0)

ITS NOT JUST DSI ITS THE SCENE IN GENERAL IN MY OPINION, PEOPLE ARE GETTING FED UP WITH ALL THE CRAP THAT GOES WITH IT.....

another thing i feel is the photographers/spotters have got greedy, NOT everyone BUT i'm aware of spotters being paid more than DJ's, regards expenses, guest lists, drinks and hospitality, surely this is the wrong way round...???

the scene is changing, its NOT the scene i grew to know and love soo many years ago, it seems soo much of the scene is in it for the wrong reasons, shafting the next peson, the music is suffereing

just like being told you can have a set at Pacha/M.O.S due to the promoter loving your demo BUT you gotta selll the promoter £300 worth of tickets for a 10% of what you sell, £30 PMSL!!! thats a joke especially when they expect you to make them £270... 10% wont even cover cost of travel let alone a soft drink!!! the new breed will do it to get out there and the nights quality of music IS suffering

for me the scene has past its rave by date and there are soo many in it for the wrong reasons, its no longer about the music it, its all about how many sheep like friends you have and not about your technical ability or reputation, this is affecting the quality of night as you see and hear really poor bedroom DJ's playing such BIG event only cos they got 30+ sheep like friends/followers.... totally wrong in my opinion....

there are still a few genuine promoters out there doing it for the right reasons BUT these fine few are a dying breed and are a pleasure to work with.... ;0)

how many threads on here are now about 2nd party promoter/DJ's wanted for joint venture and so on.... you all see them in your inbox, unfortunetly unless ya a main player there is soo much back stabbing and politics envolved nower days its a joke and takes it away from the scene and party vibe, NOT applicable to every promoter or outfit BUT even the most established promoters would agree this is the case....

facebook is not about clubbing tho, they could clear up IF they went the events way like DSI, make each event more user friendly rather than loosing the event details rather easily when the event has passed, DSI is certainly the daddy in that respect

being a DJ/Promoters its seen as a cool thing to do and soo many take this route for the wrong reasons, ohhhh look at me in my D&G kind of mentality, ohhh if this goes well i can make X amounts of pounds tax free and NOT declare any additional earnings, you would all be surprised at the lack of additional earnings that 95% of people in this industry declare, again all for wrong reasons.. MONEY!!!! its a sad state of affairs nower days, and its only gonna get worse in my opinion before it gets better and thats IF it gets better.....?

i aint had a rant for ages, this doesnt happen enough

DSI also made it easy for people to be spotted and mostly in some roite ole states LOL, people dont want this thrusted in there face after a long messy weekend, or to pop up on a work mates PC and hear comments like look at teh state of so and so, maybe a facebook like friends list is the way forward, that way the person will modify/allow people to see there profile/photo.... and stop your mates spotting you in pics, the user has to spot them selves....

its a sad state of affairs when photographers and entertainers are getting more than DJ's at some venues/promotions, once again not everyone falls into this bracket, i was always of the understanding that without any music ie DJ's there is no party, i can appreciate how these lil extras add to a night and some nights just wouldnt be the same without the random entertainers whipping up the crowd

Doesn't even seem to be about the music either, so much as a coming together of lots of people in one place. Nothing wrong with that, but surely they're sick of hearing the same DJs, playing it safe, and the same tunes remixed over and over, and the crap drugs??!!!

Definetly is not about the music anymore. This is compounded by what Toast is saying, so many shite dj's playing shite tunes, you generally turn up to a event today just to see ya mates, its like going down the pub now.
Has changed so much so quickly, just go back a year and see how many raving buddies have disappeared, its really scary. Yes we have to make room for the younger generation but they dont seem to have any staying power and dont seem to be committed to the music. How many events have I been to over the rescent years where some top old skool and top up and coming DJ's have been playing, couple of quid to get in and still no one turns up. Stick a trendy expensive dj on though and its filled, not much use to the promoter though as hes done his shirt in DJ fees.
As for the drugs, lol, so friggin shite, most people sit indoors and K hole instead of dropping one and dancing ya ass off.

stayin in is the new going out, i think with the state of the drug scene and all these new legal drugs people are choosing to spend there money more wisely and decide to sack a £15-£25 ticket fee on a bag of goodies and stay in with cheap booze and have a more social one, its far easier to chat at someones house rather that shouting down there ears in a nightclub

as for the DJ's, its hard for me being able to see if from both sides of the coin the DJ and the Promoter, hence me not doing anything with love-bug (AT THE MOMENT) still way too many events on, yes its great to see soo many nights and a diverse scene BIT then politics comes into it, you cant be seen to support one night without running the risk of upsetting another promoter so people decide to sit on the fence and stay away from both events, way too much politucs involved all the way thru the scene and thats whta us ravers/clubbers and DJ's dont wanna get involved in, it takes it away from the party vibe

bring backk proper E's that make you wanna love each other and get the atmosphere right and we will be half wayh there to making everyones night soo much more enjoyable, well thats my opinion on the matter

bring back the good ole "P.L.U.R"

That's what dsi needs to do - start up dostayin.com or dontgoout.com!

Politics and bullshit - I think in general, punters are unaware of what's going on in terms of the rivalry, bitchiness and backstabbing. That stuff has always gone on, and always will!

However they are on the ruff end of a trickle-down effect from said politics, and even if they're unaware, they're still affected. For example - rival promoters all competing with lots of nights, and hiked up door prices to pay for headliners, leads to a thinning out of punters over lots of events (and a drop in, or no atmosphere at all of them).

My own resolution, is to stop running two nights myself, just run one (downsized too, with a good local line-up, in an intimate space; creating an good vibe and intimate atmosphere). my other event, i'm taking out of the area all-together (going back to what I was doing before and running stages at festivals all being well!).
