just ask when u go to novatech, tell them what soundcard, ram u want and tell them u wanna up grade it in the future they will sort u out.

Paul (the uk hardstyler) just got some motherboard with onbourd graphics better then my graphics card. So no matter what u buy u will find there is always something better and if not it will be out to buy very soon.

Ha ha ha - it ain't easy. Novatech are good and have a good returns policy. I build my own these days because then I know what's in it and what I can change, but generally that works out more expensive, takes a long time, and is stressful as something ALWAYS doesn't work, and you never know what without taking everything out and rebuilding it a half-dozen times.

Avoid getting something from Novatechs basic range though - the one my parents bought had everything intergrated and you couldn't upgrade it, and the Novatech laptops we had in my last job were shocking. The more expensive desktops should be good though, but it's best to ask them in the shop. Best to head down there at strange hours though - at rush hour I've had to queue for thirty minutes before I could even get to talk to anyone. When it's quiet they are really helpful though and pretty good at answering questions.

If you get it from somewhere like Novatech, try asking who makes the motherboard. Avoid manufacturers like Elite Group (ECS) or PC Chips - they always sound like they have everything you could ever need but they don't upgrade well, go wrong, or don't run very well.

Dell are pretty good, but I've never tried upgrading one. PC World seem to have come down in price. If you buy a brand name, a useful tip is to do a price comparison on websites like kelkoo.co.uk - find the cheapest price for the computer you want, print off the details, then go to the shop of your choice and try and haggle them down to the price as you find online - I've tried this a few times, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. A lot of places will be willing to do price matches and generally that will work if you can find an online outlet that also has high street stores - most places will do price matching, but not always against internet prices, sometimes you have to say "This is the price they advertise it on their website but they also sell it at the same rate in their shop..."
