Looking at the comments on pillreports.com, it seems like most of the MDMA pills are being called as "old stock" from months/years back.

From the reports from the beginning of September to now, the ones IDed as MDMA are:

Swirl/double curve/registered
Smiley
X-box
Pumas
Green Rolex
Sonics/Shreks
Radiation

The first four seem identical to old reports from earlier in the year, if not last year, or even earlier. Take the X-boxes - shaped pills are rare in Europe, so it doesn't seem credible that someone would choose now to replicate something so unusual that first appeared in 2007.

Most pills consumed in the UK are "imported" from the Netherlands and Israel, and it seems that the current "drought" is primarily down to problems in the former, although at the moment there is also a lot of factional turf warfare going on in the latter (not all the explosions and shootings reported are "terrorism!). Of course there has always been smaller scale production within the UK itself, and that is more likely to be the source much of the "new stock" that continues to appear, but it is self-evidently nowhere near enough to compensate for the loss of the supply from abroad.

In the past the market hass driven by new product. Pills appear, gain a certain reputation, but eventually lower quality copy-cats devalue even the genuine product, so producers come up with a new logo/colour/shape. Inevitable, some "old stock" ends up being put to one side, and in the current environment, it is only to be expected some of it is finally ending up in active circulation.

It is more the case that the UK was "as bad as the Netherlands" than the other way around. Since the Netherlands is the majority source, the situation has to change there before it changes here. Logic dictates that domestic demand in the Netherlands will be fulfilled ahead of "export markets."
