Hi, K-Sketch here.
Submission is the Cotton Club's monthly saturday night hardhouse event. Showcasing a range of music styles: warming up with trance/techno, moving onto hardtrance, proper hardhouse and stomping hardstyle.
The Cotton Club is seen as the Newport's number 1 "ravers" club. With its underground feel and "safe raving" atmosphere, its the perfect venue for Submission.
What sets Submission nights apart from the rest is the old school "Ravers united by the love of the music" vibe that the nights bring. Friendships are made and kept at every Submission, which is why so many have you have come back for more.
The commercialisation of the rave scene is not a bad thing, but now and again its nice to be able to experience something very different that reminds people what raving is all about. Having a wicked time, getting on with complete strangers and having a dance without a worry in the world.
The venue also boasts an excellent chillout section with big comfy sofas, so you can chillout and still listen to the excellent music.
Cotton Club is situated opposite train station, between Yates + Wetherspoons.
Keep an eye out for future Submission events advertised on the main newport page and the group page.
More the merrier, so join up and join the party :)-
SUBMISSION the story so far
Back in July 2006, an up and coming dj by the name of K-Sketch took it upon himself to start a harddance event in the basement bar of the Cotton Club. Up to this point, the bar had been used as a chillout room with dancefloor. No events had taken place just within the bar itself.
The Cotton Club was starting to go through changes, and the seeds had been sowed for it to become Newport's "number 1 raver club" with the success of its monthly hardcore event, Atomic.
The basement bar's first hardhouse event was launched under the name SUBMISSION
With very limited funding and being new to the promotion scene, the first Submissions were a showcase of K-Sketch for 7-8 hours behind the decks. The launch night was a success and showed the potential of the awesome underground old skool styling of the basement bar.
Submission in its early days happened every saturday with K-Sketch providing the music.
One night out of the blue, one of the PTTC crew approached with an offer for Richie Chaos to play an hour set. Submission had had its first guest dj.
Since then, the basement bar has realised its full potential with events Submission, Lunatek, PTTC and many RnB nights.
Submission has now grown into a popular and well respected monthly harddance event, showcasing some of the best dj talent in the South Wales area.
It now has 3 permanent residents: K-Sketch, Synergy + Bonzo
And has had many big name guest dj's including: Nashy, Mogz-e, Cully, Shaun Luxton, Richie Chaos, TwoTwisted, 2many2name, Bally, Chris Williams, Lanie, DJ Luke-E, Asbo Andy, Pagey, Andy R, Gav-N, Bailien (apologies if I've forgotten anyone)
The future looks bright for Submission with its friendly "raver family" atmosphere, up for it crowds, talented dj's and superb sound + lighting system.
Can you go the distance, or will you submit?
