change in floorplan
turns out that there will be a change of music on the floors in synthetic culture. the hard dance etc that is usually on the middle floor has now been moved to the loft and a new goth-alternative-retro floor has been added. this is a great shame as there are now two floors pushed into one, not only that the dance floor is a lot smaller!

I'm confused. So they've just moved the two top floors around then? or a floor has been scrapped and replaced by retro/goth? Where's the industrial and EBM floor gone?

...and if you want your favourite SC resident DJs that play industrial and dance to keep their jobs then write to Armalyte Wrecking Crew, who'll be managing the top floor from now on. If they get good feedback about us then they might keep us!

Hard dance, EBM and Industrial will now be in the loft and Alternative-Goth-Retro on the middle floor - ground floor stay as is.

Have put in a comment on Synthetic Culture website to see if they can dim the lights down in the loft and just light up the bar and seating only so it is more of a proper area to dance and people could spill off the dance floor into the area between the seats so it is less restrictive but still waiting to hear what they have to say about that. At present it's always really bright up there and more of a better place to hang out and chat so not exactly conducive to shifting the middle floor music up there but will wait and see............

General idea is the club is dying as loads of people have left because the music has become too hard dance and not "alternative" enough in the traditional sense. Mix that with the over zelous door staff and harsh drink prices and people are bailing like there is no tomorrow. The organiser(s) are planning to re-introduce a more traditional alternative music style to get the crowds back in and turn the club more back into the way it used to be (before my time).

Looking at how the club has been getting more empty each month i can see their point. Would be better to give a reschuffle a chance and then play it by ear than watch this club night fold - which it has to be said is a possibility if things carry on the way they have been.

Don't panic yet tho - if the music change pulls more people back in then the crowd numbers per floor will most likely be a big deciding factor in which music plays on which floor so if your into your hard dance-EBM-industrial like me then be there and add to the numbers supporting that floor and if there are enough of us then the middle floor might well end up being our again in future?!

Yeah, i used to be an every month SC goer, but funds have stopped me recently, also why i couldnt continue with the djing.

I think the main problems are the bar prices and the extreme tune choices. Some people that love EBM think the hard dance stuff is too loud for their delicate ears for instance.

But saying that, there were TWO other alt nights on the same night as SC last month, so that would've taken it's toll on numbers.

True indeed. To keep up with all the latest on what's going on then check out the topic on the general forum on the new Synthetic Culture Website (www.syntheticculture.com), that way you can get your feedback taken on board and see what the latest news is.

I love this club and the atmosphere down there so really want it to keep going therefore i'm backing changes that will keep it kicking all the way even if some of the changes are less than music to my ears - better that we do our best to roll with the punches and give it time to see how things pan out providing useful feedback on any ideas we have than just bitch about it......tempting as that may be.

true true. i just wish they could have put the new floor in the loft and left us the middle one. i'm still going to keep supporting the club tho. the place cant die! i will not allow it!

maybe i can use my mighty powers.

Yeah but did the metal floor pack out last week or was the club empty in general..? I think the alternative scene is a small shrinking island so to speak at the moment.. (camden town/slimelight/things closing down..) so when it comes down to losing another alternative night of corse alot of the alternative lot are gonna pull strings to try & keep it alive because lets face it we aint got much as it is..

Myself having hard house on a floor with ebm/ industrial sort of leaves a bad taste in mouth myself. There like two different worlds its like poring tomatoe sauce on your cereal in my eyes. I cant speak for everyone but i dont think the hard house lot would except all the ebm vocal stuff too much and i dont think alot og goths are gonna wonna listen to hard house for to long... (thats just my thoughts.

Myself if i was gonna move the the goth floor i would move it to the bottom because a.) there poles down there (i dont think poles are driven to much torwards metal). Theres not much of a seating area in there but its the ground floor and you can always go out side.

I think with the middle floor your trying to draw to different crowds from 2 different worlds. Personally i think yous have to swing 1 way or the other. If your going for more of that eletro start playing the hard trance with the house and acid techno and what ever. If your going for the goth start getting deeper and darker on the goth side of things with Hard power noise / hard industrial / industek and all that ya no wumpscut, this morn omina, coverter and all that...

But i really think you have to swing 1 way or the other...

Dan - we'll have to go on another shopping mission to find you some special powers for your birthday. Can't have you having none at all.......no fun!

Think you'd suit something like laser eyes that could melt peoples ice cream at 50 paces for when you're in a mischievious mood and perhaps souped up hair creations that are maned by little mini-Dans stationed at each attachment so you can extend a tendril and fire it off at will. That way each jetisoned mini you could then go on a scouting mission and keep you updated as to where the best tunes, adventures and events are taking place to ensure you don't miss anything fun and you could stay in bed reading all day and only get up for the good stuff!

Now who do you think could create those - must be someone in Camden.........

But back to the issue at hand......

Didn't venture down to the metal floor at the last event so don't really have a clue on that one - have danced to the odd Industrial metal track down there through sheer depairation before but the whole metal/rock thing just isn't my bag. The general complaint i've heard about that floor is the music they are DJ'ing is just way to old. Can't comment personally as haven't a clue......

Just got the idea the whole place was pretty dead but the middle floor was by far the most packed - even when i went upstairs to the loft a couple of times during the night have a look around and check out what was being played there were only a few people (max of 10) sitting around and no one was dancing. Used to rate the loft floor my favorite by far but in the last couple of months it's been more and more dead up there. No offence to the DJ's but the music when i first started going out there in July and again in August was excellent but in the last couple of months has been pretty painful whenever i've hung around up there for any lenght of time. Accordingly i eventually abandoned that floor and went to hang out on the middle floor instead. Had never been into Hard Dance but due to exposure on that floor and a couple of music hits from Jonefun and Paladin to play to myself at home/on the move have become really hooked into it of late and am very happy of the opportunity....tho i still miss having the option of switching between the classic tunes they once played in the loft when i first arrived.

Personally i quite like the idea of a mix of Hard Dance and EBM with some industrial thrown in for good measure. Although i think it would only work if certain time slots were allocated to hard dance and anothers to EBM and Industrial. Know many people are more based only in one style or another but mixing the styles throughout the night might also allow people the opportunity to get into 'new' music that perhaps they have heard but have not aclimatised too. If you're having a good night and hit the dance floor when they are playing tunes you enjoy it follows on that you might well end up dancing to some stuff you've never heard/danced to before when the music switches style and decide not only do you enjoy it but you also CAN dance to it even if it's a shock to the system initially.

Worked for me.........perhaps it would work for others too?

Right.. as regaurds to drawing the dance people.

If im a hard house person and its friday night do i really need Synthetic Culture. I mean iv got packed house nights which the hole event is built around hard house in places say like brixton, Vauxall, turnmills in old st places like that. Why would i need a night that offers me 1 floor of hard house mixed in with ebm stuff that aint hard house and the event is kinda aimed around alternative..

On the contrary.

As regauds to drawing the "other breed of alternative".

If im a alternative goth electro person etc hows deep into his dark industrial industek ect. Hey you no what i could do with a friday night event that plays all the latest up to date stuff that i like and really hits home to put out the greatest music in our industry. Because personally i think yous have more chance of winning over any compertition in that field then say they the hard house. I think Brixton will win any time on a friday or saturday night as regauds to a a hard house fan in my view.

But at the end of the day just take the direction of what ever you fills gonna keep it alive.

But all the best syn and merrry, merrrrrrryyyyyy crimbo!

Just in case there is any misunderstanding the call on this is not mine - just checking what has been going on on the official website and passing the general gist along as not many people are logged on there as yet so haven't a clue that this is going on or that they can have their say. As detailed above log on to the official site if you want to put your view over to the people who decide as not sure if they are looking on DSI........
