i imagine that there's probably other communities that are big for nightlife photog for US.

Raves in the other parts might just be underground and not as public as AZ or Cali raves.
Would make sense.

I don't charge for my promotion and I promote to mainly California and Las Vegas. FOR FREE, I try to help expand the scene so more people can hear the music I love. SO call me egotistical because I have higher standards of photo's than you, sure call me it because you need to get better and you assume you are better than what you are.

I started seriously getting into photography in December, give me a break. I've never once said I was a good photographer or anything along those lines. I'm learning as I go, and as you've noticed first hand, I ask people that I respect for advice on shooting, be it club shooting or anything else. Lay off.


Mando approached me and asked me to help him promote R U Underground 2. If he wants me to help promote more of his raves and such, I will gladly do so. As for the highschool thing - you started raving in high school, did you not? Now you don't even go to rave, you go for the sole purpose of taking pictures, which is cool by my standards. I respect your work as a photographer and a person because you are very good at it.

As for charging for promoting - hell no. I don't expect to get anything out of it. Like I said, Mando asked me to help him and I agreed because he's a really cool guy. I'm not looking to get anything out of it aside from helping out someone I respect. At least I don't bitch about having to pay for a rave like yourself.

On a recent trip to New York I found that clubs were really receptive to DSI spotters and they treated me really well e.g. Press passes, VIP. The best way to bring more spotters on board is to get out there and take the pictures, make sure the events are listed on DSI and talk up the website! I was there for one night and got 7 people to sign up so it's easy enough to do!

I find my DSI alter ego proceeds me. I went to a friend of a friends house this Sunday with my ex-boyfriend and he introduced himself to the owner of the house and before I could do the same she said "Oh, I know you Colli, you're all over DSI. It's so nice to finally meet you. I hope you get my picture next party!" And I've just started spotting and telling people I've spotted to make accounts and spot themselves a month ago. People love to be part of something- they are very receptive to the whole idea of being spotted and being part of the DSI community.

In order to grow DSI in Tampa I just add the venues that I want to go to and then add myself as a spotter. you have to do this because none of the local venues have heard of DSI and none of the promoters bother to use it. It needs spotters to grow members before promoters and venues will start using it.

Anyone I see out with a camera, I shoot em and then recruit em. More spotters means more people spotted means more users and a reason for promoters to use DSI
