ATFC - THE BIOGRAPHY

ATFC - aka Aydin Hasirci - is one of the dance music industry’s shining lights. With three UK top 40 hits and a string of other critically-acclaimed productions and remixes under his belt, two labels – Onephatdeeva and Onephatdeepa - going from strength-to-strength and a reputation for rocking dancefloors, ATFC is one house music’s most exciting and consistent artists.

In 2007, with a bi-monthly residency at Love-tec, Pacha London beckoning, a three single deal in the pipeline with MN2S, collaborations with Funkagenda, Mark Knight, Peyton and Allister Whitehead forthcoming and cuts about to drop on Apollo and Toolroom Records, the man DJ Magazine dubbed ‘one of the top three producers in the world of straight-down-the-line, mainroom house music’ is firmly on track to enjoy his most successful year to date.

Production-wise, ATFC has lost none of his lustre and time and time again proves his nomination in the Best Remix category for his mix of Inaya Day’s ‘Keep Pushing’ at the inaugural House Music Awards was anything but a fluke. Following on from 2005’s celebrated ‘Hip Joints’ album and previous remix work for the likes of All Saints, Agent Sumo, Dina Carroll, Phillip Bailey, Samantha Mumba, The Lightening Seeds, Safri Duo and Junior Jack, ATFC’s most recent remixes have showcased a versatile, adventurous producer who is really pushing the boundaries and loving every minute of it. The ATFC touch on P Diddy’s ‘Come To Me’, Missy Elliot’s ‘Teary Eyed’, Harris & Swain’s ‘Changed Down’, The Freemasons ‘Love On My Mind’ and Fat Boy Slim’s ‘The Joker’ were all well-received in 2006, being hammered by the best of the best! On the original production tip, ATFC’s ‘Spread Love’, released in March 2006 on Onephatdeeva, and ‘Carino’ – released four months later on sister label Onephatdeepa – were two of the year’s biggest underground tunes and were just two of a number of influential cuts to drop from the two labels. Elsewhere, the beautiful ‘Dreaming About You’ EP was yet another success for Aydin The Funky Chile.

Despite his long-term success in the studio, ATFC is first and foremost a DJ with over 15 years experience rocking crowds. With his roots grounded in hip-hop, jazz, soul and funk, the young Aydin started organising his own block parties when he was just 16, which led to gigs at London venues like the Rock Garden and Crazy Larry’s.

In 1997 while spinning as resident of Bump‘n’Hustle and The Gardening Club in Bournemouth, Aydin joined Uptown Records, suddenly finding himself at the heart of London’s dance community. During this time Aydin produced his first UK hit for Defected records under his OnePhatDeeva guise. ‘In And Out of My Life’ brilliantly fused together Norman Cook’s string-laden ‘Right Here Right Now’ with the vocals of Adeva to bring about a hugely uplifting disco track that was to define the style of OnePhatDeeva. Aydin’s follow-up single, ‘Bad Habit’, was given the honour of being played four times during The Magic Sessions event at Miami’s Winter Music Conference. Tony Humphries and Ted Patterson both played the infectious track, with Louie Vega playing it twice in succession.

Championed by punters, DJs and singers alike, ‘Bad Habit’ gave Aydin his second top 20 UK hit and was followed up by a collaboration with Warren Clarke under the duo’s Lab Rats pseudonym. ‘Music Is My Life’ was signed to Soulfuric Recordings, giving the Lab Rats the distinction of becoming the first non-US producers to be signed to the label. ‘Sleep Talk’ featuring Lisa Millett - the third OnePhatDeeva single - made it three hits in a row for Aydin; the single went into the charts at Number 33 after spending 8 months in DJ Magazine’s Hype chart and ever since ATFC has remained one of the world’s most in-demand and acclaimed DJ-producers.

ATFC - THE INTERVIEW

Love-tec began life at the Meet bar in Farringdon in December 2005. Now, just over a year later, they are about to settle into their new home, Pacha London. What are your thoughts on the journey they’ve had so far?

Well, I played for them at Meet in May 2006 and I had a really good time there. It's a really good crowd, a lot of people seemed to know each other and it’s a good move. I think Angel S and Frankie, the promoters, are two really nice guys, very honest, very down-to-earth. It’s good that they're moving up to a club like Pacha because it’s obviously one of the main clubs brands in the world. And, if they get it right, it could be a really good move for Love-tec. You can only stay small for a while. Meet was a very small place. Pacha is a completely different kettle of fish and I think the sound they are trying to put across to their clubbers is the right sound for the club. For me, personally, it’s great because Pacha’s a good residency to have, everybody knows the name and hopefully, they can pull it off. I’m sure they will.

You're Love-tec’s new resident at Pacha, how did that come about?

Angel S asked me! I’m very flattered to have been asked. Like I said, I played for them at Meet. And I only met Angel S a couple of times and the next thing I know I was called to be asked if I would like to be bi-monthly resident at Love-tec. And it’s as simple as that.

Now, what’s your ‘bad habit’?

Haha! Chardonnay. I bite my nails, too, but I can keep that under control. Unlike the Chardonnay…!

What did you do to celebrate your last birthday?

My wife and I went to a lovely hotel in the Cotswolds.

When was that?

November the 20th!

And, how young does that make you?!?!

That makes me 35 years young!!!

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you in a club?

Jesus! Oh man! I was booked to DJ in Japan and my set was in between two trance DJ’s, which was interesting! There was a big transvestite cabaret show on during it, so I guess that was kinda weird!

What’s the best night out you’ve ever had?

My wedding.

Aaaaahhhh…

No, really, it really was. My wedding. Two years ago. In a tent in Oxfordshire. And all my friends and my family were in attendance. It was fantastic.

What’s your favourite record of all time?

It's either Stevie Wonder's – "All I Do" or "Another Star".

What’s in your pocket right now?

Mobile phone. Car keys. Erm… and wallet!!!

What happened the last time you embarrassed yourself?

On holiday. I walked out of our balcony in Egypt, naked, thinking it was earlier in the morning that it was and the guys that were cleaning the gardens in front of our room were a bit surprised to say the least!!!

What can’t you live without?

Chardonnay!!!

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?

Making sandwiches at the Royal Opera House.

What’s your big prediction for 2007?

Hmmm... that I will rise to galactic superstardom on the back of Love-tec!!!

What was the last record you bought?

It was an old James Brown re-issue in Japan.

Who are your musical influences?

James Brown, Stevie Wonder. Any of the Motown artists. On the house front, Erick Morillo, Roger Sanchez. More currently, people like Kurd Maverick and Eddie Thoneick.

How do you get away from it all?

Go to Egypt on holiday with my family.

And go naked?!

Ha ha. Yeah, and go naked!!!

Is there anything unusual about you that we should know?

I’ve got a surprisingly short inside leg of 28 and a half inches. Which, for clothes, is hard to find in Marks and Spencers!!! The shortest they do is 29 inches. But that’s not a reflection on the rest of my body…

Say no more! Have you ever been in trouble with the law?

Yeah, I was chased through Kingston town centre after spray painting the side of Marks and Spencer’s when I was about 14.

That probably explains why they don’t do your sizes in trousers then!

Ha ha!

When was the last time you treated yourself?

About a week ago. In Egypt. I won’t tell you what…?!?!

If you had a time machine, where would you go and why?

I’d go to Studio 54 in the 70’s. Just to sit in the corner and have a look around. For obvious reasons!!!

And, finally, what tunes have lodged themselves in your record box and refuse to leave?

Li’l More Ying Yang – Reach, Ministers-De-La-Funk – Believe, The Heartists – Belo Horizonte and ATFC – Bad Habit (because I’m not allowed to go anywhere and not play it!)
