I always assumed the guy closest to the camera in your profile pic was you, but it's not.

..and that is relevant because?

Interestingly, the other guy (Gylo) uses the same profile pic

We had a thread last week where Alex admitted he was happy to sell out completely to make sure his night was successful.

Thats not quite what I meant, I'm happy to book a RELEVANT act with as big a pull as possible to ensure that I attract as many people to my events as possible thereby giving me a budget to put on as large and over the top production as is possible in the venue. For example, I'm sure that Shirly Bassy or Tom Jones would pull a very large number of people in, however I would not book them for an underground dance night as they would not be RELEVANT!

In short, I like to stage events which are 'reactive' not 'proactive', i.e. if the people coming to my events want something, I like to provide it. If that 'something' isn't RELEVANT to the event but it is still within my powers to provide it, while not being detrimental to anything else which I am doing and more importantly profitable, I will endevour to provide that as well, but again in a setting RELEVANT to that thing!

If you are suggesting that I would book Paris Hilton and attempt to present her as a credible underground dance music act, then no, even with my limited understanding of what is currently 'hot' and what is currently 'not' I would not do that. Historically I've always tried to avoid booking stuff which may bring future shame / embarrasment to the brand further down the line.

Wub - That's not Pauly D. That was just a random in a bar.

Well aware of that mate, just like seeing Snooki getting twatted.

Paris Hilton isn't relevant to anyone though, she's not even a musician or anything to do with music she tried to be a singer and that flopped now she's pretending to be a DJ. She can't even suck cock properly!

I'm not saying there aren't people stupid enough to go and see her but please don't ask me for a positive reaction just because some morons are foolish enough to do so. That proves nothing except that the general public are celebrity obsessed dicks that shouldn't be allowed into night clubs. I just can't see the benefit in defending this, it happens, we all know that, but lets not be HAPPY about it.

My mate was at The End the night that Beckham got on the decks for Twice As Nice.

Said it wasn't bad.

Very sadly, that is the world in which we live!

but lets not be HAPPY about it.

I prefer to take the 'lets not waste time and energy on something which we can do nothing about', when there are lots of things out there which will benefit so much more from our time and energy.

Nigel Benn once DJed at Passion @ The Emporium before JFK kicked him off after about 20mins spent clearing the room.

It's not, I was making a joke however, 'The End' was supposed to be a credible underground dance venue where as the Paris Hilton thing is in some random venue in Brazil.

Nigel Benn

Actually, around the late nineties when the whole UK garage scene kicked off, Nigel Benn made quite a bid to be a credible DJ (within that genre) and did progress quite well within the sub-scene to my understanding. Whether he was any good or not I don't know as I didn't really have much interest in that scene as I had 'semi-retired' from it all by then.

It was at the 30,000 capacity Pop Music Festival just in Sao Paulo that has had J-Lo, Kelly Clarkson, Fatboy Slim, Ziggy Marley & Shakira perform at.

Not really a 'random venue'.

Nigel Benn wasn't that bad I have heard from a fair few people, he was big pals with some of the less savoury members of the Essex gangster/promoter/drug dealer types so I think he was into raves etc. before he became a DJ. His auto biography he talks about doing pills in Ibiza while he was still a boxer!
In any case, he was a fucking legend unlike Paris Hilton.

Its hardly a respected underground dance venue like The End though either really is it?

Not to mention that the above certainly doesn't strike me as any sort of underground dance event either.

In fact, looking at the line-up and venue I'd say it is very much the sort of thing you would expect to see a 'famous for being famous' type celebrity performing in some way or other.

Quite, it's like Boy George, I remember seeing him (him as a punter) at raves way back in '88 & '89 (not to mention that, as I understand it, he was the prime mover behind the 'E Z Posse' of 'Everything Starts With an E' fame) he was very matey with the old 'special branch' crowd (Nicky Holloway et al) so it really wasn't much of a surprise to me when he suddenly chipped up as a DJ in the second half of the 90's.

It's funny that got mentioned actually, Twice as Nice was a big night around then, they were always road blocks and they had nights in Ibiza, Ayia Napa and all over. After they worked with Bowers and Posh Spice they pretty much went tits up over night. Her making a tune with Hot Steppaz really did kill garage, it suddenly wasn't in anyway cool even to the relentless helmets that liked it in the first place. A good example of a promoter straying from their roots to cheese it up with the pop world and it blowing up in their face.

Exactly, so where is the problem? Some idiot of limited talent is playing other peoples music in front of a bunch of other idiots who are happy to pay said idiot to play said music. Sounds like a well rehersed scenario to me.
