Britain threatens to storm Ecuador's embassey for Assange
in.reuters.com

So we're not pressing charges for the wikileaks stuff as apparently we're OK with it. But we're willing to go to the effort of trying to seize Assange from a foreign embassy for the sake of a possible rape case in another country?

I'm not trying to suggest that rape is a small thing to be accused of, but if it were anyone else it wouldn't get anywhere near this level of reaction. Ecuador has apparently asked Sweden to guarantee that Assange wont be extradited to the USA after the court case, but Sweden refused to make that promise.

Its so blatantly obvious that the British decision/threat to raid the embassy where Assange is hiding has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the rape case and everything to do with having him eventually on trial for crimes against America where there's a strong chance he could be executed.

Its shameful behavior on our part. An upsettingly revealing look at how the world really works.

The biggest problem with all of this is that it backs up everything Argentina has ever said about Britain being a bully when engaged in international relations and that it doesn't care about international law when it next goes to the UN, the OAS, Mercosur, USAN or whoever because it can now say:

"Look - we're not making it up when we say Britain engages in dubious practices and gunboat diplomacy, they now even threaten to invade the embassies of countries that are supposed to be on good terms with them."

Well done William Hague, you total cock socket.

The swedes clearly are just bowing to pressure from the yanks as are we and that is what pisses me off, even contemplating storming an Embassy against the advice of that countries government to extradite someone over an every day sex crime is absurd.

Exactly what I've been ranting about!

I couldn't give a shit about Assange, he could be anyone, and from what I can tell is a sexist, bigoted knob. What I am waving my banner about is the fact we are blindly following America in it's arrogant mission to constantly force their misplaced and undeserved pride down everyone's throats.

I strongly oppose the fact that we have become the global bully's lacky. Basically America is that idiot kid that has been picking on all the other kids for ages, and we're the twat that follows them around going "yeah, yeah, yeah" to everything they say without bothering to think for ourselves, just because they've got all the cool toys. If the shit ever hits the fan, I bet they won't be there to back us up like we stupidly have for them in all their pointless, greedy disputes. Obama doesn't even like us.

Now America have been caught out doing shitty things and instead of just being ashamed and apologising, their pride is hurt and one tiny man must be brought to justice for managing to embarrass their entire huge arsed country and it's despicable system. If they didn't want to be blushing then they shouldn't have been acting like dicks and pulling shit they're ashamed of when people know about it.

I hate how Americanised our courts, attitudes, language and bloody everything is becoming. Anyone can see they are not an example to be followed, and I am pissed off that our government seems determined to drag us down to their level.

So yeah, nice job picking friends UK. Keep on tonguing that ring and don't scrimp on the reach around. This definitely won't come back to kick us in our shriveled nutsack.

The man helps to expose ours and America's darkest secrets, hooray for him I say. A more transparent world would be a better one.

I wouldn't trust what they put up there any more than I believe what the government tells me.

Very much this!

Why do we expect any difference though?

Do people in this country realise that we aren't nice humble, restrained, polite and reserved people to the rest of the world?

We are the original cunts of humanity, we invented colonialism, we invaded every country available and are basically the most hated race to every other nation other than the americans.

Our only saving grace is that someone discovered america, they discovered independence, and we are now the second most despised nation as a result of them being such horrific money grabbing capitalist bullying cunts that they even fucked off the British and we now point to them as the bad guys when they are merely extension of us.

People have this crazy idea that we're a tolerant nation and that it's just the american influence which we follow, bollocks, to the rest of the world we are the hanging turd that lingers on the american anus, nothing we do be it freeing assange or pulling his toe nails out while Bush watches in a Texas cinema is going to change the fact that we should be ashamed of our history and that we do whatever suits us, for economic reasons, whenever the opportunity arises.

I may be a cynical, depressing, joyless drug muncher but some people in this country really are so clueless as to how their cushty modern existence came about that we may as well be living in north korea. I EXPECT this from us, I'm not disappointed I'm just vindicated in the knowledge that our government shit on our blind hope of human decency which means nothing in the face of economic gain.

Spot on. I've been saying that on here for a long time, and usually it wounds people's pride because of their idiotic patriotism. Swap the daily newspaper for Chomsky, Pilger or Curtis and we'd all be a little more enlightened.

I'm not even that high brow mate, I just have such a disturbed view of humanity and the people around me, I don't understand where we get to in life that we consider our "olympic achievements" something to behold. We've really stooped to a new low on a world level in general, everything we do politically kills me slightly inside, if I ever had any life inside me in the first place it's finished living in the UK.

But Funk, I'm sure that if you moved to another country and lived there long enough the politics and people in that country would begin to grate also, to paraphrase Jim Kelly "People are the same all over the world. They stink."

we invented colonialism

No we didn't.

Greeks, Romans, Mongolians all did it before us.
