Oh dear...

"What dubstep did you listen to before Skrillex?
Jack: All kinds! Metalstep... everything. The new Korn album."

I suppose everyone's gotta start somewhere.....

I just wish they'd all make the transition from Skrillex to Nathan Fake a little quicker, then at least I could enjoy the music that was emanating from the back of the bus.

I dont think I've ever heard any form of dubstep getting played out of someone's phone. Generally dubstep kids are polite middle class students. All of the backothebus yobs that I come across tend to listen to rnb and hip-pop.

... is insulting Skrillex and by extension heavy bass music. And I know its not you.. as I said, its an old argument.

that's probably my assumption more than anything. Obviously it's not going to be exactly the same, but you listen to some tracks on your phone or laptop and you lose half of the sounds purely because the speakers aren't responsive enough.

If he doesn't make his music like this on purpose then it's obviously just a handy coincidence and one of probably many factors which has seem him reach his level of fame. I've never knowingly heard his music, yet I seem to hear about him all the time. But then that's just modern society and their love for 5 minute superstars. As soon as they reach the top half the people that put them there instantly turn on them and everyone else goes insanely mental for them.

It's all part of the commercial music merry go round

Well yeah, but that applies to absolutely everything. All genres. There are some that become completely pointless without decent bass, like a lot of jungle which ends up just sounding like a chimp with a biscuit tin. But I would say that they are seriously in the minority. I just think its a non-statement. No one says that Adele's fame is in anyway attributable to the fact that you can still hear the majority of her voice through shit speakers.

I was the same for ages until I ended up getting involved in loads of conversations about him so thought I should listen to a few bits and pieces on youtube. I was surprised about how non-awful it was. Dont get me wrong, I think you'll find it appalling, but I'd still rather kids were listening to him than rnb/singer song writers/rock music.

Bit of googling seems to suggest they may well be actually, although nothing confirmed.

What an odd couple!

That's what I thought, and also, hasn't Skrillrex joined Radio one? That's a bit of a kick in the teeth for Gregg James isn't it? Or maybe he dumped her and he's not that bothered.

I know Ellie's no oil painting, but he's gross! ewwww

My exposure to Dubstep is the Wax Treatment podcast, Shackleton, dbridge & Instra:mental, Scuba and not really much else

XI - You MUST check out the two artist albums by Kryptic Minds, they would fit right in with your dubstep agenda, I have their first album and when I get paid I am buying their econd album. It's great music and then albums are listenable from start to finish with a great flow, great production and greast music that would appeal to a techno head.

They've also done an earlier album which was DnB, and have a fourth album on it's way which "won't be Dubstep"

Yeah, their D&B stuff was just OK for me, never bothered to buy any on vinyl or their CD albums of D&B.
