Help resolve debate – Define a RAVE.
Been having a debate with a little 19 year old scrote who goes to places like Romford and Faces Nightclub here at work, to cut a long story short she reckons she goes to raves, however, I know that she hasn’t. Ultimately it comes down to her definition of a “Rave” and I’ve been trying to explain to her that she hasn’t been to an actual rave and if she had she would have realised how wrong she is.

So it got me to thinking, what would you say defines a “Rave?”

Yeah Labyrinth at Pleasure Rooms was the first rave I ever went to mate, totally different world to anything you can find these days but maybe that is a good thing...

There was a One Nation a few years ago when they stopped all the music and brought out a police car or what was made to look like a police ca on to the main stage, everyone started looking baffled and a few boos broke out then they just blew it up on stage! That was pretty cool I thought, you don't get shit like that any more, a couple of lasers and a projector screen counts as "production" now.

I was there for that.

I think sweat dripping from the ceiling is a must for good rave.

Sorry XI, I think that is nonsense. I don't mean to sound rude, it's this here keyboard. I've been to Fabric a hell of a lot and I used to go on the Friday nights mainly, never felt edgy or kicking off in there, ever. Sorry I just simply disagree with you.

Perhaps it was just the nights I went to. I only went to a handful of Friday nights, probably about 5 years ago. But it definitely felt there was more attitude on a Friday than it did on a Saturday nights that I went to in the same time period. I'm not saying I feared for my life, because I never once felt like that.

I guess it was just Friday nights attracted more undesirables than the Saturday nights did. Had I gone to various illegal squat parties in grimey illegal establishments and see people getting stabbed etc, then perhaps I would of thought the fabriclive atmosphere was much more pleasant. But I didn't, so I'm only comparing it against the other experiences I've had.

Infact I don't think I've ever felt unsafe in a clubbing environment

that was just an average Saturday afternoon down public life. The ceiling always leaked in there. We've had DJ's playing while someone holds an umbrella over the decks, more than once

Bad clothes, topless people with fucked up teeth and black eyes, a girl getting fingered in the corner, a rumble for the coat queue, ice poles, smoking weed on the dance floor, everyone being battered, 500 illegal mini cabs waiting for you outside, a burger van etc.

Once thing I will concede is that once I found Terry Francis, I promptly moved over to going on a Saturday night and I do know what you mean by change in the atmosphere. Ultimately I think it comes down to the fact that I noticed Friday nights began to do a lot more hip-hop as opposed to the funky nu skool breaks that I mainly went for and that brings with it a crowd (hip-hop crowd) that I myself personally feel don't really know how to enjoy themselves when compared to the tech-house have it massive. I have failed to find a tech house crowd with a bad attitude.

Actually I lied, once I found a crowd with bad attitude and that was for Circo Loco at The End, but most of those were probably glory hunters jumping on the band wagon of an international brand name and not actually having a clue. And saying that though, Circo is minimal and not actually tech house, it's techno . . . . Supposedly, if I'm going to get into that genre trapping arena ;)
