Who's going to Marathon?
Who's going to be checking out the Marathon this weekend?

I'm going, Nic's running it and a bunch of us are going to the 19 mile area in Canary Wharf to cheer her on and have it in the boozers around there.

Good luck getting a pint anywhere within a mile of the marathon route mate, I went once, spent the whole day walking through crowds not being able to get a drink and got so pissed off I went home.
I don't understand the marathon, it's just a large group of people jogging, in the original greek myth doesn't the guy that runs the 26 miles actually die? Why would you want to copy that!!

I'm dubious as to how much fun I am going to have but I am taking whiskey with me in a bottle and a poncho and warm clothes. I wouldn't be going but for the fact Nicola is running it and I have said that I fail to see how she thinks we're going to spot her at all, it's going to be impossible. But you gott a show your face and do your bit.

I fail to see the enjoyment in running a marathon much like you.

Wub
The Space on the 13mile mark on Isle Of Dogs is always decent, but as Funk says anywhere is a cunt to get to.

We were going to the 19th Mile area, then I have to go to the finish line to meet her. Got a few mates sticking it out with me though.

Watch it, I'll know where you'll be this weekend! (PM us your number and if it's feasible we'll have to meet for a drink or something!)

Has anyone ever done the marathon on here before? My cousin did it in 3 hours 23 min and one of his toe nails fell off afterwards, he also said even with plasters on his nipples almost bled!

I never used to see the fun in the marathon either, but I've got friends who live on the route in Charlton and the runners go past their front door.

They were well into the marathon and made a big thing out of it every year, but I took no interest until I went for the first time years ago. We'd go round early, make bets on the first male, female and womble past the door, eat bacon sarnies and drink cherry Lambrini. It's also surprising how liberating getting drunk and spending hours shouting "GO ON FAT BOY/GINGE/STEVE" at all the little runners is. Most of them helpfully have their names on their shirts and look excited and energised if they hear you. The odd runner has been know to accept a beer from us without breaking stride.

There's a steel band down the road and a great atmosphere, and we'd also have a BBQ afterwards, although after consuming my weight in Lambrini before 10am, I was often asleep by 3pm. So, yeah it can be immense fun in the right circumstances. I'm actually really upset I'm missing it this year, as I'm in Southapmton. I know about 6 people running this year too, which is a bit of a record, not that I ever spot anyone with my diabolical vision.

See that sounds fun, my experience was spending 3 hours walking about 200 metres with no alcohol in my hand, also being "fun sized" I couldn't see shit either so basically went all that way to stare at the back of some cunts head!

Go to the Rose of Denmark pub in Charlton, short walk from Charlton station. They open early for breakfast, and if they aren't serving, there are plenty of offies near by and they have benches outside so you can get a good view of the race. You need to be there around 8 though, really to get your spot.

Sunday mornings can only consist of weed, bacon, ibuprofen and sex to me. Anything else you may as well be talking Urdu, let alone getting up at 6am to watch some people I don't know jogging!
