Probably the same people who buy/sell David Guetta records.

It is bad, really bad, but the outrage online has been well OTT. Famous people turning their hand to DJing is not a new thing.

I think a lot of the outrage is based on the fact that her wealth has opened doors for her, and that she's a proper fuck-knuckle, bereft of talent.

You are right, there's loads of celebrity DJs out there, but you'd never expect to see Dane Bowers, Matthew Horne or Peaches Geldof playing at an event like this.

Have I missed something here?

Ok, so Paris Hilton DJing, I find that more odd than bad. I'm not entirely sure why everyone is so up in arms about it though. Surely if there is a crowd of people who want to be entertained by her DJing then all is good (for them at least), after all, no one is forcing any of us to go are they?

Or is it that the fella who seems to adjust the mixer part way through is in some way doing ALL the DJing and not her? If that is the case, is everyone sure that he isn't just one of the sound engineers adjusting the levels or something (I do remember at my events the sound engineers would occasionally have to do that sort of thing)?

or is someone now going to tell me that he is actually David Guetta making another million on the side?

Honestly, I really don't get what the fuss is about. Can someone please explain it to me?

The fuss is that being a "dj" and "promoting a night of dance music" has now got to such comically woeful levels that even complete fuck nuggets like Paris Hilton are pretending to mix in clubs when it's clear she can't even work a mixer.

It used to be skilled, it used to be something that people did because they loved music, it's now just a joke. We've reached a point where it is now acceptable to just book people because of their name then allow them to play a recorded to CD and pretend to mix live, whilst charging people silly money for the privilege of watching someone push play on a CD mixer then wave their arms about a bit.

If you're cool with that then fine Alex, personally I find it in bad taste.

I always assumed the guy closest to the camera in your profile pic was you, but it's not.

We had a thread last week where Alex admitted he was happy to sell out completely to make sure his night was successful.

No I agree. It's just all the same usual Dance music elitism bullshit again to be honest.

You say this now Steve, when you're booking people from Jersey Shore to play the main stage at Global you'll be struggling to look at yourself in the mirror!

Hahaha this will never happen mate. That's my point really, these celebs turning their hand at DJing won't be given a second glance by any reputable brand so let them do what they like.

Pauly D is a legend though for the record :-)

Horses for courses, surely it is the punters who decide what a credible night (in their opinion) is? If the punters at that particular night feel that Paris Hilton is what they want to see then that is up to them. As you guys have already pointed out there is alot of very commercially acceptable dance music out there so who is to say that the event was anything other than a commercial dance night. Don't get me wrong, it may well have been sold to a commercial crowd as an 'underground' dance night but if Paris Hilton is on the line up I very much doubt that an underground crowd would have turned up.

Ultimately if there is a market that is willing to pay for something if packaged right, someone will always be more than willing to provide it. Just look at McDonalds, they could add flavourings to shit put that shit in a box, pay a hollywood star to say 'I'm loving it' in a TV add and the public will buy it. The trick here is to make sure that YOU only pay for what YOU want to be provided with.
