Creamfields, credibility and unwashed masses?
Ok, so given the current anti-superstar DJ trend on here of late.

I was of the impression that Cream and by extension Creamfields was a very credible outfit!

Their current advert on this site shows they are headlining the likes of Avicii, David Guetta, Eric Prydz, Deadmau5 and Skrillex to name but a few.

I'm pretty sure over the last month or so I've heard you guys seriously slating most of those guys so what are your thoughts?

The point upon which we differ is that I have the humility to accept that I'm one of them!

Oh well fair enough, I am more than happy to count myself in their number for a multitude of reasons. Thankfully not on any of the subjects we're discussing though ;)

I'm rambling so I'll stop now. But I hope you can extract some sort of point from the nonsense above lol

It all made very good sense Alex, once again though I'd urge you to look at the positive rather than the negatives though.

At the risk of utterly derailing this thread.. we live in a democracy with more than two parties. Yet despite an endless cycle of labour cock ups and Tory hellfire the vast majority of the voting public still fails to realise we have more than three parties running for office.

Unfortunately Alex, the smaller parties tend to encompass the extremists and smaller priority groups. Voting for them can result in some seriouse idiots getting their hands on the strings of power. For example, I think that the UKIP brigade have a very important message regarding europe (I'm not sure if I agree or not), so you know that they would put alot of effort into that area however we have little or no idea on how they would tackle other more important areas of our governance!

Again, just look at the various local elections where groups like the BNP have been voted in because the rest of the populace didn't want to vote for one of the main three. It was that sort of behaviour which contributed to the rise of fascism and various other totalitarian systems in the first half of the last century.

Now given the choice I'd rather have a hundred Tony Blairs, Margaret Thatchers, Nick Cleggs hell even Boris Johnsons in office than just one more Adolf Hitler, Joe Stalin or even Nick Griffin!

I know life long labour voters who voted Tory despite hating them and all they stand for, specifically to not-vote for the party they felt let down by. Idiots.

To be fair Alex, I was kind of that way myself, traditionally I've always voted Tory in the national elections, but for many years while Tony Blair was in power I simply didn't vote, because while I didn't agree with the way the country was being run, I really didn't see the Tory's (or anyone else for that matter) as being in a position to do a better job. By the time we got to Gordon Browns tenure enough had come out that showed a team of monkeys led by Mr Bean could do a better job, as such I voted accordingly.

What about The Greens? I think its a bit of a reach to suggest that all of the smaller parties are people like UKIP and the BNP!

I think the Greens need to change their name, as it suggests that the only issue their policies are attempting to address is climate change, which isn't the case. They've come a long way from their roots.

What we need in this country is something new. Some proper options that dont include the big two. I still think the Lib Dems could make a bloody good go of it if they got sole governance.. Like you say, its all being run so poorly why not give someone else the wheel rather than just giving it back to the people that fucked it up the last time.

Huzzah for total thread derailment!

But commercial dance music as a whole has gone downhill.

As opposed to this?

The problem is, music is art, and art is subjective.

Can I believe that people will pay multiples of £100k for unmade beds and piles of bricks? No.

Nor can I believe that people would willingly go out and buy the Mr Blobby single.

But all of the above have happened, and I expect that those people would express a similar incomprehension as to my tastes.

Unless you're awarding a prize, it's pointless trying to judge according to your tastes.

I dont actually have an issue with all this nonsense existing. The sad thing, I think is that there's nothing to balance it out. Yeah there was all the cheesy europop in the 90s like Two Times etc but there was a deeper, more thoughtful, more edgy, more.. fuck I dont want to use this word.. intelligent (now I hate myself) side to popular dance music as well. And it was represented in the charts. Now its all this vapid, auto tune, trance riffed, quick structured, mass produced crap.

Fine, yes its all subjective and a lot of people will like it. But as I said earlier letting the money men control a creative industry in the way they do drives out diversity. Which is bad news for the scene as a whole.

To be fair Alex, in the 90's the good stuff that managed to chart was few and far between, looking back there was a hell of a lot more cheesy shite in the charts than we care to remember. Moving forward I'd say there is actually less blatantly cheesy shite out there now than there was then, or more specifically the cheesy shite out now is a lot less cheesy and shite than it was back then.

I do think there is still the occasional jem that breaks through these days, but when it happens, as in the past, it just gets 'done to death' (i.e. Overplayed and Overcopied).
