not really. unfortunately, some people seem to forget that deciding if a pic is good, is an entirely subjective matter. just because you dont think a photo is "good" doesnt mean that everyone, and more importantly - admin, agree with you.

so anyone questioning why a pic is put up there, as soon as theyre told its up there because the guys like it, will that be enough to answer your question?

people also seem to forget about what kat mentioned. DSI is a business, so sometime its decision...

Your original post to which I replied "youre guessing".

You asked: which part?

And I basically told you that:Youre guessing that DSI use strict guidelines for the selection of pictures on front page

why delete your comment?
I went to edit and deleted but you had already answered me calling me a div...
Whats a div?

Whats a div?

div

Actually originates from prison slang in the UK. A job often given to the lowest inmates was to put cardboard dividers into boxes. Someone given this job was a 'divider' or a 'div'. Now used as an insult to those who display stupidity.

It's a cool photo from outside london, which is important, because DSI is quite london heavy on the homepage sometimes.

I liked the way podeum circled the bottom of the pic and the light in the background. Ob1 seemed to capture a moment between the two girls having a groove.

Well, without wanting to appear rude, the very fact that you ask should be an strong indicator that stupidity could well be present. :|

Matt called you a div.

You asked what a div was.

I offered you an explanation ending with "Now used as an insult to those who display stupidity."

And then you asked "So basically I'm being called stupid, is that right?"

When I would've thought it was obvious he was implying you were stupid.

And should stay outside...

I understand the reasons why you chose the photo, and to be honest I'm not really bothered what you put on the FP however I can see some peoples point though and I'm sure you do too, that it is not the FP material we are used to.

Somone earlier mentioned pics being chosen for professionalism...I think that's what it said, but can't be sure, so apologies if I got the meaning wrong - were you being serious or sarcastic?!

Anyway, how do you define professionalism? Is it whereby lots and lots of photographers copy Marc de Groots style because they've seen him do well from it? Is copycat work all that professional?

Personally I'd rather see a varied selection of styles that showcase how different photographers see clubbing. Some I'll like, some I won't, but at least we won't be looking at the same thing all the time.

That's about right.

"I don't know much about art but I know what I like"

And people on here "like" to see photos that all look the same.

It mystifies that people get their knickers in a twist about front page photos. I mean, really, there are better things to argue about!

Please could the people who are properly upset about what they judge to be crap front page photos explain to me why the fuck they are wasting their time on this subject?

!

Well, I'd say it has a lot to do with the competition to get a "Top Photograph". People who are even remotely serious about photography and use DSI are used to the high standard of dare I say it again, professionalism on front page. For DSI to then place a shall we say sub-standard photo on FP it doesnt surprise me that someone actually questioned the reasoning behind it.

You guys should look RIGHT BACK in the archives at what was front page material 4 years ago...it was all about seeing DSIers out and about and not the photography so much. You'd piss yourself.

Ok, that is a serious answer, but possibly flawed, DSI is a fun site about clubbing. For those serious about their photographic careers their are many professional avenues for self promotion. For the rest of us front page photos serve a myriad of purposes – technically good shots, shots with interesting or funny content, shots from clubs around the world, random things, seasonal things, awards ceremonies – you name it. It definately isn't just a space for pro spotters to show case their work. Nor should it be!
