I'm a 28 year old raver, clubber & DJ, playing a mixture of nu skool breaks, techno, tech house, electro house, acid & some hardcore.
It all began for me back in 95 when as a schoolkid into industrial & metal my brother started to go to raves. I used to listen to his hardcore and jungle tapes and from then in I was hooked. From then on it was out every week to nights like UK Dance, Epidemik, AWOL, Dreamscape, One Nation & Mindwarp. At the end of '99 things were looking bleak for the dance scene hardcore had all but died a death, drum & bass was too dark. Saddest of all Oscars on Clacton pier shut down & UK Dance were booted out of Rumours nightclub.
Months went by then slowly but surely things started to build again around Colchester. With the return of Pulse-8 the illegal rave parties started a happen in warehouses, fields, hangers across the county, dancing all night with hundreds of others out to have a good time. 2001 brought the explosion of hard house, with regular trips up to Essence in Ipswich at another sadly missed venue, The Attic. A sweatbox of massive proportions but hosted some awesome parties.
From then on came the drum and bass revival, the opening of Distinction nightclub meaning you could see 5 top class DJs in ur local club for about £5! Top notch! Things were sweet!
Rapture returned to Colchester in 2002 with The Stanton Warriors, who I'd heard were pretty good! I went along expecting a good night and came away with such a rush that straight away I was in Rapture buying vinyl, this was a scene which was so fresh and carefree. From then on i was buying as many good breaks tunes as I could lay my hands on. After witnessing what can only be described as a f@*king superb set by Meat Katie at Boomslang in Cambridge my sound and choice of tunes became even more focused towards the house/techno end of breaks but pulling in tech house, acid, electro house.
That my friends is the raving journey I have taken to get to where I am today. And it's only just beginning!
