A&R positions within the dance music industry seem to be coming harder and harder to find, yet, at the age of 23, Carl Hanaghan is emerging as one of the UK’s leading new breed A&R talents.
Having worked and studied within the music industry since he left school, Carl shortly found himself digging deep within some of the dance music industry’s leading independent labels. If it hadn’t of been for lengthy internships at Defected and Born To Dance Records, Carl would’ve not landed a fantastic opportunity to work for the leading independent dance music label… Ministry of Sound.
During his three years at the Ministry of Sound, Carl collectively learnt and gained knowledge in this ever fast moving industry. Initially installed as a DJ Promotions assistant, he soon made the job his own with promotions into both Head of DJ Promotions and an A&R Manager. He worked and was part of setting up many projects that were very successful including 2008’s biggest Drum & Bass anthem from J Majik & Wickaman in ‘Crazy World’ that went on to achieve an official UK top 40 chart position.
At the end of 2008, Carl was head hunted by Mark Brown, Director of Cr2 Records, and accepted yet another fantastic opportunity to become a part of one of the most successful independent record labels who previously brought you hit records from Fedde Le Grand, The Egg and Mark Brown himself. Looking forward to 2009, Carl has his sights set on using this opportunity to firmly stamp his mark and achieve further hit records within his new A&R role.
Of course these years have been accompanied by a successful rise within the DJ circuit that still to this day feels fresh and looks set to continue. He has played alongside some of the world’s biggest and most influential DJs such as the likes of D. Ramirez, Tall Paul, Seamus Haji, Michael Gray, ATFC, StoneBridge and the Soul Avengerz to name but a few, at some of the world’s premier night spots including the Ministry of Sound (London), Pacha (London, Munich & Egypt), El Divino & Eden (Ibiza).
This has led on to greater heights with Carl establishing himself as one of the resident touring DJs for the feel good house music brand that is Hed Kandi. So far this residency has led Carl into the studio to mix “Hed Kandi : Verbier” and “Hed Kandi : Ibiza 2008” both digital compilation albums available at all good download sites.
Not just a Hed Kandi DJ, his versatile style of music choice has led to his ability to perform for club nights including touring events for Cream, Gatecrasher, MN2S and Mass Recordings.
So what does 2009 hold in store for Carl…?
