Hi guys, always a bit hard to know what to write in these things - never mind, hey? How about my history of dance music? I'm not the first, and certainly won't be the last to go down this route!
Got into dance music via The Chemical Brothers when Surrender came out. Before that I was mostly into indie-pop stuff (it could have been worse!). Picked up Fatboy Slim and The Prodigy about the same time, and later on in 2000 I picked up Underworld and Leftfield, so I sort of worked my way through in reverse order when it came to dance music. Early 2001 I checked out Moby and Aphex Twin, and at some point Groove Armada. When I went to uni in 2001, I met up with a guy in my halls who introduced me to Orbital, and that really got my attention! Still one of the best dance acts despite the fact they've split! About the same time I discovered the Plump DJs, and they really shaped the way my musical tastes went.
Fast forward to 2004/5 and I'm now fully into tech-house/breaks. Started to look at DJing a bit more seriously now (I dabbled at uni but lost interest) as I'm finding there are just so many good records out there that just aren't getting played out down here. The scene in Portsmouth (& surrounding area) for tech-house & breaks feels so small, and myself and a friend have started a night called Error (should be a link on here somewhere!!) which plays techy breaks - bit of a dream come true really! Come along and see what it's about if you feel like it.
How do people finish these things? Hmm, well seeing as this is DontStayIn, if you see me out and about (let's face it, with the hair I'm pretty distinctive) feel free to say hi!! If I don't seem to say much back, it's coz I'm shy, not coz I don't wanna talk!
