His music experience started a long time ago when he first heard Duran Duran as a kid. Not cool we know but he was caught by the electronic sound they captured. From then he started listening to the likes of New Order which still had the electronic sound he loved but less of the pop shine Duran Duran carried with them.
It was watching the Hitman and Her one night when a new video from a band he had never heard of before changed things for him. That band was The Happy Mondays and the video was Wrote For Luck. Watching Shaun and Bez going nuts in a nightclub and song itself awe struck him. He couldn't find the song in your average record shop, so he started going to underground record shops like 23rd Precinct and Fopp Records, and a whole new world opened to him. This is where he discovered 808 State and his love affair with Dance music began. He lived in Glasgow at the time and started going to the Glasgow Hacienda to see Marc Smith. He then started going to Heaven, The Tunnel and The Sub Club. He also went to various Rezurrection's and Fantazia's events.
After moving back to England he fell off the scene for a while. However the Trance scene kicked off and he started going to his local club The Sugarshack @ The Empire Theatre, Middlesbrough. He has seen some of the biggest DJ's in the world perform there. Paul Oakenfold, Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto, Judge Jules, Sasha, Digweed, Steve Lawler & Paul Van Dyk to name but a few. The club and the DJ's have been an inspiration to him and just over 2 years ago he finally thought "I want to do this" and bought his first decks, a rubbish pair of belt drives. At first he couldn't beat match or mix but kept at it and eventually got the hang of it. After wearing the belt drives out he got himself a decent set up. Having a decent set up to practice with has helped him grow in confidence. His main style is Trance. His sets start of melodic then turn his set into high energy shockwaves.
He has played gigs around his home town of Middlesbrough and across the UK. He also has secured Radio Residencies on Afterhours.FM and Nettwerked Radio. In March 2006 he was picked from thousands of entries to appear on ETN FM's Rising Stars. The following month the same mix he did for that show was picked for Mix Disc Monthly's April 2006 Showcase which he went onto win and is now in their hall of fame. You can also check out his mixes on WaxDJ.com
He was also head of promotions for Trancemixers.Com where he secured guest mixes from the likes of Ferry Corsten, Judge Jules, Activa, John Askew, Perry O'Neil, Manuel Le Saux, Graham Gold, Ian Betts, Thomas Datt, Neal Scarborough, Lange & Phynn plus many others. He also organised the Trancemixers night in Ibiza in conjunction with Vicky Devine at her Charlys Angelz night in Play 2. He took the station from a handful of listeners to maxing the server.
2007 has started well for him with 2 Guest Mix appearances on Kuffdam’s Club Damage Show on DI.FM, a mix broadcast on national radio station Galaxy 105-106 FM and it has also seen him start ‘Digitized’ in conjunction with DJ Gaz Smith. Digitized is a company that spans all areas of Dance Music. There is Digitized Recordings the record label, Digitized Promotions and Management and of course Digitized the club night. The club night is currently held at The Pacific in Middlesbrough and has had headliners such as Activa, Kuffdam, Greg Downey, Marcos Euphonic, Jay K Walker & Jon O'Bir with Cliffy being one of the residents. However in 2008 Digitized will be held at The Empire Theatre in Middlesbrough with some huge headliners including Paul Van Dyk, John Askew and Above & Beyond with Cliffy making his Empire mainroom debut. It will also be launching it's new website www.digitizedmusic.co.uk Watch this space.
To add to all this he also produces under his own name and also under the guises of 'Order To Dance' & 'The Digitized Project'.
It's still early days yet and who knows what the future brings. Still learning but still yearning.
