i am an enthusiastic, fun professional teacher who loves dancing and spinning poi in my spare time, in addition to caring for my own and my partners kids x 7(!) and a teaching career. I have a first class law degree and take all aspects of my teaching very seriously.
I have been dancing/ spinning poi for 3 years and dance for london clubs in London with The Gloworms. The Gloworms have danced for many nights including Tasty, Hardcore Til I Die, Antiworld, Logic, Twisted, Transmission, Wildchild, Polysexual, Knowhere, Total Mayhem, Hectic, Corrosive, Toxic, Atomic Energy, No Limits, Pulse, Flashbak, Imagine, Pickle, HuJe, X-static and Colours. I also have a passion forclub photography and regularly spot for dontstayin. there are plenty of photos of me on dontstayin meeting lots of lovely people! I often spend a lot of the time in the club teaching and inspiring new poi addicts.
I have also been teaching the poi during this time, inspiring the old and young and have been working with the disability charity , where I teach children with special needs to develop confidence and co-ordination and to achieve things that they never thought was possible. This has also taken off and I have also been doing poi workshops with young people in community projects.
Poi teaching has been successful that I am building a new website and starting a business called "Firefly Poi Academy" teaching in educational establishments and other workshops. This will include childrens parties, corporate, the young and old and the disabled. I have developed various programmes to suit different abilities and clients and aim to leave mainstream teaching to concentrate on my passion.
for anyone who does not know, Poi is a traditional and tribal art form from New Zealand,
believed to have its roots as a Maori martial art. For many people, the art of poi is a superb stimulant for the brain, and can help with learning difficulties, for example dyspraxia and co-ordination problems. The poi also brings confidence and co-ordination understanding of the balance, of body left and right and focusing the mind to concentrate, as well as being a rhythmic and graceful dance which can be choreographed into wonderful performances, particularly when using more elaborate poi in UV, LED or fire. It can teach you to work with both your hands and open the mind to a new way of thinking. Furthermore, it is an excellent exercise to improve your overall fitness and upper body strength.
