A bit about DJ-FROOTY-GCD




FROOTY first discovered Rave / Hardcore music way back in 1989, after
listening to the sounds of Acid House at the age of 11. The tunes of
artists such as, 808 State with the track 'Pacific State' & A Guy Called
Gerald with the track 'Voodoo Ray', got Him into the early rave sound.
He has since followed the evolution of Hardcore / Rave music, through the
breakbeat sound of 1992, to the kick drum led Four Beat / Happy Techno of
1995, the vocal heavy 'Happy' Hardcore' sound of 1996/1997,
right up to the upfront trancey sound of Hardcore played today.

In mid 1995, after listening to the mix tapes of DJ's such as
Vinylgroover, Brisk, Vibes & Hixxy, He became more interested in how
the music was mixed together and decided it was something He'd like to
try himself.
He got his first pair of decks in 1996 & taught himself how to
mix, playing out at free parties.




In June 1999 He got a set for a local weekly Hardcore promotion called
SPUNKY at the JAILHOUSE NIGHTCLUB HEREFORD (www.thejailhouse.net). That set led Frooty to a DJ
residency at SPUNKY which has now spanned nearly 9 years.

At SPUNKY Frooty has had the chance to become a well respected
resident, winning BEST HARDCORE DJ in the annual SPUNKY GOLDEN
GLOWSTICK AWARDS.
He is also a resident DJ for BAZOOKA based in Haverford West, Knighton & Newtown Wales (www.bazookaevent.co.uk).

He has played main sets and warmed up for many of the big name DJs in
the Hardcore scene past & present such as, SY, HIXXY, STYLES,
VIBES, VINYLGROOVER, BRISK, ROBBIE LONG, BREEZE, UFO, SLIPMATT, DOUGAL
& SCOTT BROWN.

He has also had the opportunity to have played sets alongside many of
the scenes MC's both established & up and coming, including,
WHIZZKID, STORM, WOTSEE SMILEY, NRG, FUGITIVE, SCOTTIE B, GAZY J,
FRICTION & ORION.

As well as SPUNKY He has played for other events in around the country, NATURAL BORN
RAVERS (Cambridge), THE FRUIT CLUB (Swindon), HARDCORE PARADISE
(Cardiff), BAZOOKA (Haverford West), RAVE BY SEA WEEKENDER (Newquay),
ATOMIC (Newport), BOUNCIN BEATS (Shrewsbury), NEMISIS (Swansea),
MISSING (Manchester), BAZOOKA (Newtown).



Frooty's mixing style & tune selection is influenced by DJs
such as Brisk, favouring the faster, bouncier
sound of upfront Hardcore & preferring longer mixes.
Tracks from labels such as Next Generation, Blatant Beats, Thin 'n'
Crispy & Evolution feature in His sets, also some Nu Skool Gabba.

Over the past few years He has also become interested in producing
tracks, starting out in 2001 producing tunes with successful Welsh Hard Dance Producer/DJ
Vandall (Trancewarez Records).
In early 2003 he teamed up with Hereford based
Producer/DJ Matt Envy, after meeting at Slammin' Vinyl NYE 2002 they both
realised that they had the same ideas & aim, inspired by producers such as Scott Brown & Vagabond, they soon started making tracks together as well as also becoming best friends.


January 2005 Frooty took his love of music to a new level opening 'GROOVE CONTROL RECORDS' a record shop in the City of Hereford, selling Hardcore / Hard Dance & Drum & Bass Vinyl, CD's & Tape Packs.
Unfortunately the shop shut after over 2 and a half years of trading in October 2007, Frooty then decided to concentrate more on His DJ career & setting up a label.




In late 2007 Frooty and Matt Envy started work on a Hardcore download label called ‘GROOVE CONTROL DIGITAL’, named after Frooty’s shop.
The label will be launched on IMO DOWNLOAD on MARCH THE 24th 2008 with large back log of releases.
The label is very diverse in styles with influences taken from many different music genres and producers, but overall trying to capture a more ‘Hard Dance’ feel to the music.
Since January 2008 the pair have also teamed up DJ wise also, playing whole sets of their music with great success, winning best tune in the 2008 GOLDEN GLOWSTICKS with the Goonies influenced track 'HEY YOU GUYS'.
The pair plan to promote their own sound wherever possible throughout 2008!.
