At the age of 14, is when Oli Willson first had his set of belt drive turntables bought by his parents to try and keep him out of misschief, but what they did not realise is that Oli would become a well establised and good bet on being one of the UK's finest DJ talents.
Back in 1998-2000 and when the likes of Judge Jules, Pete Tong and Tall Paul were educating everyone in the Trance genre, Oli had found his first love for clubland. Whilst playing classic vocal uplifting trance that would get you thrusting your arms into the air on those melodic breakdowns, he would be adding his own twist and use his cheeky personality to be an instant hit with everyone that was in his crowd.
After a couple of years living and playing abroad, different influences had made Oli take a step in a different direction in the form of house music. On the return to the UK and now based in Loughborough, he formed a partnership with Warren Schwind who is now one of Oli's most trusted and best friends. Cleverly entitled 'The DJ Sluts' the boys were starting to feature on posters across the region playing an uplifting sound of funky and up tempo house that had them playing at pretty much every bar and club possible in the area.
Along came a new club called Rain Nightclub, which completly revolutionised the area due to its size, layout and club experience that everyone gained by walking through the door. The launch night was none other than 'Hed Kandi', in which 'The DJ Sluts' hosted the pre-bar at The Custard Bar. Jono Allen, who was the main promoter for Rain, recognised Oli's talents not just as a DJ, but as an individual that would offer a lot more to the club due to his popularity. At this point he finished his partnership with Warren so that he could focus his efforts on being a solo DJ again, and this is when Oli's career started to excel.
With Jono's vision and Oli's networking skills, the partnership was an instant success. Oli's opening night was for the Housonic UK Tour, which at the time had been voted the bet clubnight in the UK. He played a perfect Bank Holiday warm up set for Hugh Gunell, then played back to back with Jono for the last set for them to stamp their authority on the evening. This was just the beginning!!!
Over the next year, Oli thrilled for a variety of nights which included Miss Moneypenny's, Tokyo Disco, Fierce Angels, COCO LOCO, Housonic and JUNK.
On these nights he played alongside some of the worlds top DJ's which included Mark Doyle, Stonebridge, Trophy Twins, Freemasons, Herd+Fitz, Kate Lawler, Hatty Lovehearts, K-Klass, Jeremy Healy, Carl Holyoak, Alister Whitehead, Neil Narvarra, O'Jay and Ken Fan. Oli without doubt, proved that he was in his element and gained great respect and comments from all of the above.
Due to his success, he was invited to feature for other events such as Soulfunk, Ripe Fresh & Funky, Freefest, Trevor Nelson & Radio1 @ Loughborough University, Splashfunk and Refunkt to name a few.
At the beggining of 2007, Jono's own brand Junk was signed to Nic Correlli's (MYNC Project) new club venture in Loughborough, Rapture Nightclub. Hosting two Saturdays of each month, Junk & Oli Willson moved from Rain to take their success to the next level. Since the move, the line up's have got bigger and better, which include club favourites like ATFC, Mark Knight, Rebekka, Bodyrox, Stonebridge, Micky Slim, Tom Neville, Funkagenda and Dave Spoon.
Whilst playing for Junk, Oli is also involved with another up and coming DJ/Promoter/Producer, Steve G. Steve has selected Oli for the Soulfunk 2007 UK Tour which no doubt will be in your area soon, and will be hosting exclusive outdoor summer events at La Piazza, which is one of the areas most exclusive bars.
Oli so far has managed to achieve huge success within the last couple of years, and looks forward to going forward with his skills and techniques, to insure that his friends, family and most of all his crowds, continue to enjoy his sets and musical tastes.
