DJ PELAU named himself after one of his favorite native dishes of Trinidad & Tobago, not because he's considered greedy at times, but nobody in his homeland seems to be able to agree on the origins of the name - hence his quick action to take it for himself! And plus it's a constant reminder in the North American wilderness where he now resides, of the mixture of soulful cultures he once grew up around. Similar to his music sets anything ranging from soul-heavy house, percussion feverish beats, pore-raising riddims and shirt-drenching up tempo grooves the 'Pelau' name signifies a mixture of tastiness. Outside of his weekly DJ residency gigs at the world famous The Standard Hotel with his "Gateway Near Heaven" day/night slot (Downtown Los Angeles), he prefers not to be to streamlined into any one venue outside of this - for now at least. He'll guest dj when the vibe is right near and far, local and foreign, and even for free if the cause in the long-run means something special. Forever mixing it up, just like his favorite homegrown dish, his forte is really not behind the digi-turntables like another master in the game from his hometown, Timmy Regisford, but behind his pen - publishing works for over a decade through established outlets such as Vibe, Rollingstone, BPM, The Source, Upscale, Urb and currently holding down Unleashed Magazine's "Sounds" column. His diverse musical tastes even saw him command under his alias 'Mr. Marlon', the "Musical Murder" dancehall column for The Beat Magazine, the globe's premiere World Music magazine for 10 years!
