A bit about djvelocity

For DJ Velocity (a.k.a Vaughan Waring), music has always been a heavy influence since he was born. Raised in the Crewe & Nantwich area, South Cheshire, his childhood soundtrack was full of inspiration from his father's record collection, with genres such as Jazz, Soul, R&B/Hip Hop and artists such as George Benson, Bob James and Earth Wind & Fire, his house was always full of fresh melodies, rhythms and basslines.

As time went on he became interested in other genres, but it wasn't until he moved to Manchester in 2004 when he discovered a music that encompasses all his influences and grabbed him with no signs of letting go, and that music is Drum & Bass. It was tracks like Vault by Pendulum, Together by Logistics, and X-Ray by Sub Focus that got his attention, he liked the way that Drum & Bass is full of energy and has a defined rhythm, but at the same time is one of the most variable genres in the music industry, ranging from the soulful vibes of Liquid to the harsh dirty beats of Techstep. Velocity also got sucked into the Manchester D&B club scene, becoming a regular at underground nights such as Metropolis, Platoon and Ape. He loved how the scene brought no negativity and no attitude, everyone is there for the music and to enjoy themselves and creates a atmosphere no other music scene can.

However, perhaps the defining moment for Velocity was when he first heard the Nightlife series by Andy C. He was totally blown away by the energy and power that flowed from his mixing, it was then that he realised Drum & Bass mixed together can have devastating effects! He began to mix himself and has created his own style taking influence from Andy C, Friction and Nicky Blackmarket to name a few, playing beats from labels such as Ram Records, Technique, Full Cycle, Hospital, C.I.A and V Records, he descibes his style as fast and energetic Dancefloor D&B.

He is currently hard at work running a new D&B club night in Stoke-On-Trent called RUSH! and is also heavily involved in a brand new website www.MidlandsDNB.com with the aim of bringing Drum & Bass to a wider audience and at the same time bringing current dj's, mc's, promotors and ravers in the Midlands closer together!

Velocity also hosts his very own two hour radio/webcam show every Sunday night 10pm-12am on www.SUBBASSFM.com
