Played tunes to people in probably every bar + club in the area since 1973. STILL loving it!!
Met some great people on the way and played at some excellent venues, also a vast amount of absolute dives.
Been lucky to have shared the same bill on special guest nights with a lot of well known names, some of them will probably be unknown to persons under the age of 35 such as Froggy,Greg Edwards and Robbie Vincent in the 70s/80s.
Probably better known would be Chris Bangs DJ/Producer/Label Boss and also some bloke called Pete Tong, who used to ensure that he was in Margate for all the Bank Holiday Monday Lunchtime Sessions at the 'Atlantis' [now the basement of Escape on the seafront] in 1979[!] where we would do an hour each then back2back it for the final hour. I remember one of those holiday Monday's, when i gained massive approval for reviving Hi Tension's 1976 tune of the same name, but true to form Tongy emerged the hero by dropping a track from an U.S. import album by The Crusaders. It featured Randy Crawford on vocal duties and it was called 'Street Life'.
More recently shared billing with Mark Doyle of Fierce Angel, those very nice lads known [amongst other working names] as the Soulseekerz, and a couple of do's with Radio One broadcaster and long time servant to the scene, Judge Jules.
All of these gigs were presented by the fun lovin' couple who run the promotions outfit Guilty Heaven along with my fellow DJ's and highly talented mates Robbie Styles, Ian Garner and Phil Good. Gigs have included Pacha London and the world famous Turnmills' gig Smartie Partie.
The summer of 2007 included a highly successful and enjoyable mini tour in Ibiza where we played six nights out of seven and sometimes two [and one night three] gigs in a night. Great stuff!
I ain't doin' no retiring just yet!
