The Spin-Monkeys are made up of 2 brothers, Pete Phoenix and Illy. They began their dj-ing career in the mid 90’s, and started off by playing all aspects of house and garage music. Their love for music soon shone through as they moved from the bedroom into regular house parties. They rapidly built up a reputation with their dj-ing ability and found themselves providing more and more demo tapes. As time went on their musical tastes moved to a more underground feel, and progressed towards the electro side of house.

Before long they found themselves playing at bars regularly and pre-parties for promoters, as well as promoting their own small nights in Norwich and Bury St Edmunds. This gradually led on to club warm ups and guest slots for various nights around east anglia.

In April 2006 Pete saw a thread on a clubbing site advertising the Pams house PHunky DJ competition which they entered, and went on to win, beating over 60 other DJ’s from around the county. This lead onto a residency for PHunky, as well as sets at The Hunny Club in Brighton, and Es Paradis in Ibiza.

As well as DJing regularly, The Spin-Monkeys have recently been busy in the studio, and are hoping to release their first tune “Swoop” after getting good feedback from DJ’s and crowds from all over the country.

Their style would be described as uplifting and energetic with a basic policy of if it makes you smile and move your ass it gets played. Today they are best known for playing up-front electro house with a twist, cutting up tunes and using effects to there full potential. Their love for the music and DJing cannot be missed, working the crowd with their own unique and energetic style behind the decks. Their influences range over a wide selection of Dj’s such as Fat Boy Slim, Erik Morillo, Touche and Switch, all are important for many different reasons.

The Spin Monkeys are now residents for one of the biggest nights in Norwich OVERDOSE, which have already seen them play alongside Touche and Meat Katie. Their residency is every first and third Saturday of the month, so if you like to hear the best electro around at the time, come down and say hi, you wont be dissapointed.

Looking to the future their only real goal and ambition is to be able to share their passion for the music with as many people as possible all over the world.
