A bit about Jamie-McHugh

My name is Jamie, I'm a DJ/Producer with tracks signed to labels such as Underwater, Audio Therapy, Brique Rouge, Lot 49, Variance etc..

To stand out in the dance music industry today you've got to have something pretty special to offer, if you look around you'll see loads of DJ's all claiming to be the next big thing, begging you to download the latest mix or check out the latest track. You know the type, most have biographies which are filled with half truths and outrageous claims and all of them are pushing the latest musical fashions. It's a breath of fresh air to discover an artist who not only has talent in abundance but manages to move with the times without jumping on the latest bandwagon.

JAMIE MCHUGH IS DANCE MUSIC'S BEST KEPT SECRET, HIS PRODUCTIONS HAVE BEEN SUPPORTED BY THE LIKES OF LAURENT GARNIER, MISS KITTTEN, SASHA, JOHN DIGWEED ETC. YET TO MANY HE IS RELATIVELY UNKNOWN - IN A WORLD WHERE IT SEEMS AS IF EVERY DJ ON THE PLANET IS TRYING TO GRAB YOUR ATTENTION IT'S REFRESHING TO COME ACROSS A TALENT WHO IS HAPPY TO LET THEM FIGHT FOR THE LIMELIGHT WHILST HE CONCENTRATES ON THE ONLY THING THAT REALLY MATTERS - MUSIC!

Jamie takes pride in his productions sometimes spending months on a project before allowing it to see the cold light of day, many up and coming producers choose to set up small digital outputs for their own productions but Jamie opts to do things the hard way - spending time making sure each track is perfect before releasing on established, high quality and well respected labels. As a result his tracks in demand with the worlds best DJs. He has featured on Pete Tong's Essential Selection, The Essential Mix and various other shows on BBC Radio 1. The support list on his tracks reads like a who's who of dance music, He has signed tracks to Audio Therapy, Brique Rouge, CR2, Kill Brique, Lot49 etc. and remixed Josh Wink, Thugfucker, Tom Pooks, Meat Katie & D. Ramirez to name but a few. His debut artist album "Mind Games" is testament to his hard work, snapped up by Darren Emerson for release on his acclaimed Underwater records, the album has already achieved unrivalled support from the worlds leading DJs alongside rave reviews from the media.

The story really began when "Arcadia" was snapped up by David Duriez's ultra cool Brique Rouge Label, heavily supported by the likes of Nic Fanciulli & James Zabiela the pair went on to feature the track on the first mix they recorded together. The follow up "Confusion" on sister label, Kill Brique was named as a Dance Floor destroyer by Slam in DJ magazine. Slam then named "Lunar" as one of their biggest tracks of the year while "H2O" was played by just about everyone. The biggest supporter was Sasha who requested an exclusive and caned the track at nearly every gig for the next six months. Jamie has also found the time to remix one of the biggest tracks of 2007 - Meat Katie & D. Ramirez's "Stop The Revolution" where he featured alongside Dubfire and was included on a DJ Mag cover-mount CD by Darren Emerson, Other remixes include Josh Wink's "The Bass" and The MYNC Projects "R U Sure" for CR2's 50th release.

As a DJ, he has played all over the world in some of the most prestigious venues - from Centro in Jakarta, Indonesia to Gorod in Moscow, Russia. He has entertained crowds in almost every conceivable including a rave at disused air raid shelter in Germany and performing on the Pioneer Stage at an Exhibition in Earls Court, London. He has featured as a guest DJ on BBC Radio 1 and provided a cover-mount mix CD for I-DJ Magazine. "Don’t ask me to define my style" quips Jamie; I play everything from deep house to techno, I like to start off nice and slow and build a mood teasing effects and acapellas into the groove before picking up the pace. He has also played at every major club in London as well as major European spots such as the Triebhouse in Neuss, Germany. Jamie says "I try to use every bit of technology available when playing out, scratching, efx, acapellas and live loops fill my sets".

Jamie is also head of A & R at Variance Recordings and hosts the Variance show on Proton radio. As head of A&R he has already helped the label to numerous Radio 1 plays and support from some of the worlds biggest DJ's including Pete Tong, Sasha, Carl Cox etc.. introducing the label to the talents of Audio Soul Project, Tom Pooks, Perc etc. So what’s in store for the next few months? Jamie's debut artist album "Mind Games" will be released this summer on Underwater Records, packed with floor friendly tracks the album has already been doing the damage on the worlds coolest dance floors. "H2O" and "Lunar" will be released as singles along with mind bending remixes from some of the best in the business. Jamie's own remix Josh Wink's "The Bass" is due out very soon and he has already put together a DJ mix CD to be given away free with the August edition of I-DJ Magazine and with a packed tour diary and guest slots at some of the worlds best clubs, Jamie McHugh is unlikely to remain dance music's best kept secret for very long!
