Right, where did it all start? Well, to cut a very long story short, it was probably when I was about 14 and I really started gettin into the whole mixin' thing. I was really in to uk H'n'G when I was at school and was always gettin in to shizzle for bein caught with my earphone's in! Kool FM, Rinse FM, Upfront FM and many other pirate stations were a BIG inspiration for me and listening made me sure that this was my dream - to be one of those DJ's!
Music was my life - still is actually... I've always had a passion for DJ-in even when I didn't know how. Even started buyin vinyl when I didn't have dex lol! Doolally, Straight From the Heart was my first record :o) Ahhhh, the memories! I loved Jungle too coz my older sister's were into it back in the day so always had some form of dance music blaring out, annoyin my Dad (well, he did give us them speakers lol). That's what led me into my love of D'n'B! How do u beat those dirty b-lines and rollin' beats????
It wasn't till I was about 15 that I started to learn to mix. I didn't actually get my first decent set of dex till about 4 years ago due to financial issues and stuff (as they dont come cheap when u aint got a job & ya parents are skintos) so was kinda using everyone else's and my shit ones but 4 years ago was when I started mixin' full time (as in every day after work) and have enjoyed every minute of it. I did/do a few private parties here n there with Mr DJ Somatic (watch this space for that bad boy DJ!!) and he introduced me to a few Drum n Bass heads and managed to sort me out a few set's (check out the flyers) so thank you bruv!
I also met a couple of really cool people/promoters/DJ's randomly at some party we were doing namley Mat, Bills aka Sub Species. I believe they heard the music from the streets n followed it up the stairs :) Can't beat that kind of randomness :) They then asked if I'd be interested in DJ-in at future events they'd be holding n I said yessss (of course)! My first major set was alongside such names as Darren J & Logan D with MC's Eksman, Lady MC & Scorpio MC!! What a night! It's wicked 'avin it with the girls on the scene!!
I also decided to take a lil' risk n send a mix to Shotz (Radical Beats/ planetdnb) after hearing summit on a Student Welfare advert... In time he had a listen & that was that!
I'm now part of www.planetdnb.com and have a show every Saturday, 6-8 thanks to Mr Shotz n Skudgings taking the time to listen to my mix so if u wanna hear some rollin', liquid, dark, jump up, bashie D'n'B & to see what the gal dem can do, make sure u log in!
I've also been working alongside some of the Wax FM boys & have been DJ-in at events held by the veteren Mr Onset! There's also some future bookings organised by the big bad n heavy Unix (Kool Fm/Radical Beats/planetdnb) so hold tight for the details!
As they say, this is the start of a new begining! Following my life long dream - ANYTHING'S POSSIBLE IF YOU REALLY WANT IT TO BE!!
Don't forget to check out Organised Noize, Urban Revelations and Student Welfare presents Radical Beats... Bless up!! Big tings to come for 2008!!
