MC LOCO FANTAZIA INTERVIEW FEB 2009
ON the interview today he we have in my oppionion Britians number one Mc the man the myth the carismatic aberdeen fan
You guessed it the MC LOCO
Q1. What is your name? And your Mc name
My real name is Steven watt and my mc tag as you know is mc loco
Q2. How long have you been in the scene?
Started mc’ing in 1993 but been in the rave /dance scene since 1990 as that’s when I experienced my first rave. What a night that was!
Q3. What is the scene like now compared to when you first got into it
I will start with when I fist got in to it. back in the day as most people say it was in a word unified (i.e.) a great sense of togetherness the buzz was like nothing I’ve ever experienced in a long time the people were all off there tits of course and no one not a single person was drunk as events never really sold alcohol at raves just water Vicks whistles and light sticks lol. There was no need for alcohol as the pills were all you needed. So I think that’s where the happy togetherness feeling comes from as every one was in the same frame of mined and buzz plus the music was much different to nowadays lots of piano breaks real up lifting stuff to make you rush out yes tits.there was no nice venues like nowadays some of the clubs now are class and properly kitted out with big sound systems and lighting rigs that look amazeing . There was always the big warehouse party’s like the RHC ingliston home off rezerction and the livi forum home of awesome 101 then theirs was earth Quaker and that was on farm in dalleagles inside a tent in the mud so back then it wasn’t very pretty venues but it was some buzz, now a days the events that are put on are awesome the production and the work behind the scene is second to none just look at the likes of fantasia fantasylands and black over in Holland etc there events are what its all about in my eyes and to have the chance to play them is the best feeling ever.... the scene is more organised its really switched on and the ravers now a day get more out of an event i.e. dj’s p.a’s mc’s from all over the world coming over and bringing there thing to the ravers plus a lot more different styles of music, the music now is much more hard and more aggressive its full on and in your face and lets all face it we fucking love it. Then theirs your uk hardcore a bit more toned down and hands in the air stuff and people love it., so summing it up back then in a field out yer tits rushing to every beat, now its nice venues amazing music huge events and non stop madness.
Q4. Were there any influences you had becoming A Mc
Yeh I used to lisin to ice t and nwa when I was in school the first album I ever bout was original gangster and I could rap the whole album so id say ice t was my first influence. But when it comes to mc’s that have influenced me in the rave seen its got to be mc gavzie he was the man in Scotland when I was getting in to it no one could touch him I’m my minde.
Q5. Would you say there is a certain style to the way you Mc
yeh every mc is different and has there own certain thing going on, I’m more of a crowed hyper and don’t go to much on the rhyming thing there is a time and a place for doing rhyming over music. Ids say my style is energetic full on and controlled
Q6 what can we expect from you in Feb.??
Expect a full on show with who ever I’m on with plenty winding up the crowd and a few rhymes’ flung in at the right time...ill be on in the main arena with bassy g and techno trance doing abit of old school which will be quality! so be shure to see some crazy shit going on in that set then its off to the moh arena and the kidfectious arena cant say who I’m on with in there yet as I’ve not been told I usually find out the week before.
Q7 what kind of music cant you stand
Makina!! Scouce house HATE IT WITHA PASSION.
Q8. Have you ever had any residences (clubs etc etc?)
Yeh! Nosebleed, north, fusion judgement day etc the only residences I’m doing now are judgemntday and hard style united.
Q9. What is your Mic set up do you have your own
I’ve a shure sm58 it’s the classic mc tool can’t beat it nothing comes close imo
Q10. Were are some of the places you have played and what are they like (atmosphere ect ect
Can’t put down everywhere I’ve played theirs too many. So ill say that fantazia judgement day rezerection at ingliston and bttf and not forgetting nosebleed have been the best places I’ve ever played at. some of the nights I’ve had at these events have been the best times of my life, ask anyone that had the chance to go to nosebleed and they will all tell you the same amazing same with the rez at ingliston back in the day I loved playing rezerection the atmosphere was electric from start to finish. And then theirs fantazia the noise in that arena is deafening and makes the hairs on your head stand on edge its pretty breath taking.
Q11. What’s the best party you been to just as a raver
I cant remember it was that good the best rave/party I was ever at when I was a raver was and rezerection the castile I will never forget that what a nick and what a night I remember dancing round the rez and must have passed my mates 40 times and still thinking I’ve went round the place once and to make matters even more confusing when you walked in to the place the back of the stage was in front of you lol very confusing in the state of mide I was in but they were good times
Q12. What was the first record you ever bought
The first ever record I bought was toxic two by rave generator I think? That was a long time ago.
The first album I bought was ice t original gangster
Q13 what’s the latest record you have bought
The latest album I’ve bought is the new oasis album and I’m very disappointed with it they have mellowed out to much
Q14 how does a Scottish crowd compare to an English crowd?
There is a difference between the Scottish crowds and the English crowds the English crowds are up for it and have a great party. But the atmosphere when it comes to a Scottish crowd is second to none its party hard and no one party’s harder than the Scots
Q15 what’s the worst gig you have ever done?
I love playing all the gigs I do but if I have to pick one its when I was playing at rave on the wave on the fife ferry about 13 years ago it went over the fourth on an all nighter laster 12 hours and I was sea sick for 10
Q16 what’s the best gig you have ever done
Now that’s hard one I cant really say I’ve got a best one as theirs been so many the first fantasylands sticks in my minde when I was on for bass generator that was just awesome that night and when I mc’d fro anger fist at fantasylands that was something special ill never forget that
Q17 How did you get Your Mc name
A guy called dj jackhammer from years ago gave me the idea
Q18 Any advice for upcoming dj's Mc's
Try to be individual don’t try and imitate your favourite mc. And get your own style. Don’t rhyme over every single beat nonstop. And copy other mc’s party tricks you are there to host the event and hype the crowd let the music do the talking. Remember the whole point is you are there to introduce the do and work a crowd and most importantly have fun if you have fun the crowd will see that and in turn have fun with you.
Q19 What’s your favourite type of set to Mc to
Love mc’ing to hard style /hardcore and drum and bass
Q20Who have you worked with in the scene
Nearly every big event promoter in the uk if I was to mention them all and all the dj’s we would be hear a long time
Q21 What can we expect from you In the coming months/years
Got loads happening for 2009 I’m gone be working in the studio with bass generator and technotrace in the next few months we got lots of tunes coming out on bass generator records uk. Plus I’ve started to manage the pa systematix there guys have a sound of there own its very old school sounding with a new school edge to it the tunes there guys are making just now are some of the best I’ve heard in years I’m gone be doing a few trax with them next month. I’ve got a few solo projects in the pipe line along with dj fusion. Event wise I’m still working with judgemntday along side mikey B and bassy G to put on events throughout the year lots happening with that watch out for info soon on that one. Plus we got hard style united happening in Glasgow. I’m also working with promoters like colours with boony and martin. And al at Reactor twisted&brainfire. And out break promotions up north. So plenty happening this year I’m looking forward to it .and looking forward to the partying that comes with it lets say plenty drinking will be involved no doubt
Q22 What’s your memories of the first big gig you played
Looking out at the crowed before going on at rezerection and buzzing that much from it I felt sick
Q 23 how do you feel when u step up to the stage (nervous exited)
A bit of both it gets easier the more you do it but the nerves are always there for a little while I think it’s more an adrenalin rush than nerves now
Q24 What’s different about Fantazia compared to other promoters
The production and the sheer size of it all makes all the difference its second to none the work that goes in to each one is unbelievable
Q25 If you could go back and change one in the scene what would it be
Ban fluffy boots
Q26 Have you got Any release on a record label
Yeh got two on storm records with dj fusion and gona have more this year on bass generator UK
Q27 Do You like working with any particular Dj And why
Hell Yeh! bass generator we team up all the time the boy knows his stuff and can work a crowd like fuck! we know each others style and what one another is gona do thro the set its works really well. He is a legend of the rave scene and still as enthusiastic for it as ever and the crowd love him plus the fact he is as much a party animal as me which always helps as he blames me for shit and I blame him for shit it works fine lol, we always think of new crazy ideas to do on stage and it always seems to go down well with the crowd plenty more to come from us ..,I also like to work with dj fx. Fusion and ballistic we all know each other well and have done for years so it works when we play together there all top lads and are on top of there game when they play
Q 28 As a Mc who plays all the big gigs in Scotland how do you prepare for each gig
Drink helps lol, and I like to see all the hype before an event i.e. on internet forums bebo etc it all adds to the buzz and kind of lets you know what everyone’s looking forward to .also I always make a point before I go on to get right in to the crowed and talk to every one it all adds to the buzz
