A bit about mrdoris

Check www.myspace.com/mrdoris for up to date info on gigs and some musical tasters etc...

Mr Doris (a.k.a Cris Doros) plays everything from old funk classics through old skool breaks, nu skool and dance floor jazz to broken beat and afro funk taking in everything in between with splashing of hip hop thrown in for good measure... he has been pleasuring the dance floors with his solid soulful sounds for the last 5 years now... playing in such prestigious venues as Turnmills (London) and Manumission (Ibiza) to smaller (what he prefers) more intimate venues such as The Phoenix (London), The Tardis (London), Dusk Till Dawn (Bournemouth, England), Oblik (Lyon, France), Oceania (Thessaloniki, Greece) and Ancient People (Ibiza).

The Side By Side collective / record label (www.sidebysidemusic.co.uk) were the first to pick up Mr. Doris in 2004 with their open view on music that included everyone from house to drum and bass djs / producers and visual artists to jazz musicians. Side By Side appealed to him greatly as it has always been the live element and the diversity of music that he was interested in (he does not like to put his music style or production into categories).

Mr Doris is most at home while dj-ing alongside a LIVE element such as sax, trumpet, bass or bongos... and often tries to incorporate this within his sets... that often means that one set is never the same as the other... keeping his sets fresh to the ear...

2005 was the busiest year yet for Doris with him being in demand right across England and Europe, securing a residency with Manumission (Ibiza) in their world famous (and debaucherous) Tantric Toilets while also playing at and promoting his own night Pure Groove at Ibiza’s best kept secret bar Bling Bling (amongst playing at several other venues across the island). Back home in sunny ol’ Bournemouth he also played at and helped promote the towns premier breaks night ‘Break da House’ (www.breakdahouse.co.uk) bringing some of the worlds best breaks artists and the cream of up and coming live bands to the forefront of the areas music scene. It was within Break da House that Doris nurtured “the eclectic lounge” (in conjunction with Side By Side) which fused the live element of bands with some of the countries best hip hop, funk and leftfield dj’s… a true first in the town that saw other people follow suit.

Mr Doris is also part of the dj/producer duo TheSkunkMonkeys with partner in grime Ben Logue. These two really do bounce off each other that in turn makes the whole crowd bounce with them. The duo has a no rules music policy that can usually encompass anything from old skool funk and hip hop breaks to nu skool jazz and breakbeat but with the emphasis always on the F.U.N.K. Their 4 deck shows are a true spectacle not to be missed!

Mr Doris has also been part of the Dorset free party movement FishSeeksBicycle (www.fishseeksbicycle.com) from its outset, playing and partying hard in locations ranging from disused quarries on the Dorset Jurassic coastline to the Opera House in Bournemouth.

2006 looks set to be an even more hectic year for Doris with dj residencies set with his own night Pure Groove at Oblik (Lyon, France) and Break da House, Bournemouth (resident in “the eclectic lounge”) held at the newest club on the block Dusk Till Dawn (www.dusktilldawnclub.com).
With guest spots also confirmed at Maison, Liquid V, Sneaky, FishSeeksBicycle, Madchester, Pedigree Funk, Voxx (Lyon), La Modern Art Cafe, La Plateforme (Lyon), La Fee Verte (Lyon) and Side By Side’s BANG! to name but a few. He will also be supporting Goldie Looking Chain and DJ Yoda as part of TheSkunkMonkeys on their Bournemouth leg of the tour!

On the festival circuit he has also already been confirmed to play at the Nuits Sonores (www.nuit-sonores.com) Festival in Lyon and FishSeeksBicycle’s first festival in Dorset. The summer will also see him going back to his favourite island Ibiza to see another season in with the Manumission crew and continue his Pure Groove nights at several venues across the island.

All this while trying to complete his first production E.P ‘Scribble Funk’ and album ‘Safe As Houses’ that will take in music styles ranging from nu skool funk and jazz, hip hop beats to broken and afro beat with collaborations from such artists as Spinner Shindigs, Aldo Vanucci, The Dark Knights and Isterick… SO WATCH THIS SPACE!
