‘If it ain’t Dutch, it ain’t much’ pretty much sums up Dutch DJ’s and producers, who have been taking the world of dance by storm.
One of those guys is London based dj & producer Patrick Hagenaar, who has been playing in clubs all around the world for the past 8 years, whilst still only being in his 20’s.
Back in 1999, Patrick moved to London to start off his dj career whilst studying BA Business Studies. It was only a few months later when his mix-tape got reviewed in the notorious IDJ magazine, which kick started his dj-career in London.
Within the first couple of years, Patrick already managed to grab both promoters and clubbers’ attention by rocking the London club scene with his uplifting house sound. Highlights back then already included BIG clubs like Heaven (residency), Ministry of Sound, Turnmills, The Cross, AKA, The Egg (residency) and The Key.
Since then, Patrick has won the ‘Upcoming DJ Award’ in his home country (’02), was chosen by Holland’s biggest dance magazine (BG) as ‘Rookie of the month’ (’03) , ‘Star DJ of the Month’ (‘05) by Pioneer and Runner-up at Hed Kandi’s Resident DJ competition (’05).
Besides club and bar gigs, Patrick has also been resident DJ and musical director for Scotlands biggest charity fashion show for the past three years and has appeared on radio stations all around the world through Ministry of Sound’s ‘Funky House Session’ syndicated radio show, which gets broadcasted in over 80 countries!
With more and more booking requests coming in from the UK, Patrick was offered the opportunity to become one of Housexy’s main resident DJ’s back in 2006.
Since then he has caused damage on dancefloors in every corner of the globe throughout Europe, Asia, China, Africa and the Americas, not forgetting his bi-monthly residencies at Ministry of Sound and Pacha in London.
Early 2007, Alistair Albrecht (Resident DJ & owner of Funky 4 Love) invited Patrick to play at Pacha (London), which not only resulted in a monthly residency, but also in a long-term partnership between the two as ‘Hagenaar & Albrecht’. Since then they produced ‘What Would We Do’, which has been played by big DJ’s all over the world and topped every major dance download store, selling over 30k copies in the process!
In September 2007, Mobile operator O2 approached Patrick to participate in a project that no other dj in the world has ever attempted before: mixing a live dj-set on two mobile phones! On the 22nd of December Patrick managed to pull this off @ the ministry of sound, which has since been viewed by 1000’s of clubbers on youtube.(have a look on youtube and see what the fuzz is about!)
Besides this, Patrick has also been working on numerous solo projects and other collaborations, which have been getting support from DJ’s such as: Erick Morillo, David Guetta, Laidback Luke, Axwell, Roger Sanchez, Mischa Daniels, Marco V to name a few.
His tracks have also featured on compilations from Ministry of Sound, Defected, Hed Kandi, Fierce Angels and the list keeps growing and growing....
At present Patrick plays all around the world, but despite his busy DJ schedule, he's been working on numerous exciting productions with some famous producers and songwriters, so watch this space!
