Hi and welcome to My face on DSI.............
I am Paul Godfrey and here is a bit of info on me;
Well DJing is my true passion, buying my first decks at 15 and starting what is now a huge 10 year collection of vinyl, from Tribal to Breaks, Techno to Funk and Electro to Progressive i never been blinded by the genre if its good it good..!
With my first gig at the now defunct Hogshead in Sidcup, setting my decks up on the bar and linking it crudely up to the sound system... Saturday nights in Sidcup changed and with some big one off parties featuring DJ Deekline, Ben Bennett, Ali Wilson & Pied Piper and a huge borrowed sound system, the Hogshead was rammed to well over 400 people with a staggering que outside.
From these one off parties a company was formed with my co - promoter which grew into the mighty Frontline Marketing a company that designed and printed Record Labels, Record Sleeves, Cd and dvd covers, flyers, several fanzine and magazines and the Music Industry Manual.
Frontline formed in December 2002 and by December 2003 we had succesfully taken on bigger companies such as Delga & CMCS and won. We made it our aim to have the best produced labels with the quickest turnaround in the industry. Including buying our own huge oven to bake the labels in overnight so that they were free off moisture and ready to be pressed on delivery to the plant (This was revolutionary no other label manufacturer did this) we secured deals with independant Record labels, Distribution Companys and Pressing plants. There is a good chance that if you bought 12" or 7" records between 2002 and 2006 the labels and sleeves would have been pressed by us.
Labels included Ram Records, Trouble on Vinyl, True Playaz, Ganja Records, Nebula, Rat records, plus many more
Distribution companies including Essential direct, Amato, Cutgroove, Intergroove, AND Pressing part of 24twentyfour artist managment
And becomming the only recommened label producer for The Uk's largest pressing plants including Independant pressing (Nottingham), Optimum (Bristol), Orlake, Curved pressing, Damont Audio, Planet Phat, Quickpress, Liquid Mastering, JTS studio, Key production, Magic Wand & Xpress Vinyl in London.
Frontline Marketing continued leading the way for a small independant company untill November 2006 when with the collapse of several large distribution companys and the closure of many of the UK's large pressing plants it signalled a premature end for frontline marketing unable to compete with with the larger UK and European companys that did everything in house at cut throat prices. Coupled with the rise of digital djing becoming the way forward Frontline printed its last label on November 16th 2006.
Urban Flava's was started back in 2006 and has continued to grow. Designing, manufacturing and distributing Cd packs, promo and branded garments. So if your listening or wearing anything From Drum and bass, grime and dubstep through to funky house, minimal and Techno we probally made it.
Through out this time I have continued to dj and promote and these are listed below.
Dj'd and Promoted GLAM in 2006 at the Drayman with DJ's Studio B, Matt Paczenski, Ben Phelps and with L BONGO J on percussion... with guest Dj's ORTZROKA - GREG NOTTAGE - HOXTON WHORES - JESSE JAMES
London 'The House Sessions' kicked off in September 2007 in a huge Edwardian Mansion in Hackney and after four huge parties with some amazing dj's including Kerry Wallace, Nick Maleedy, Dj Ramo aka Omar Bicane and Jasmine Childs with a astonishing following the House Sessions looks set to be a benchmark for all future parties
After being away from the decks for just under a year, I made my come back to Djing at Smartie Parties 13th birthday at the Scala on November 8th 2008 and closed a packed room 3 with a blend of chunky beat driven tech house & breakbeat... I was asked back to do it all again but this time in Room 1.. Closing that room with 100's of people singing along to "The real thing" after getting down to a set of driving house beats reminded me that being behind the decks is a wonderful place.
Looking back so far over 2009 and its already shaping up to be a good year, after getting back behind the decks in late 2008 for Smartie Partie I haven't looked back. After securing a residency with Smartie Partie I have gone on to play packed out rooms at The Scala, THAT, Pacha and now finally at SP's new home The Den (the End) in between I have had guest sets at Pacha for Twilo, The Ministry of Sound for The Gallery with some fantastic boat party's thrown in for good measure 2009 shaped up to be a fun packed if a little messy.
fast forward and 2010 saw me working for Excuse the Mess, a fantastic party that took over some of east london best and unknown warehouses, basements.... whilst djing regularly 2010 was the year i finally said goodbye to performing with vinyl and start my search for a new medium to bring my sound to the people.....
