One night 18 year old Rick went down to see one of his friends Dj and little did he know at the time that this night would change his life. Rick knew straight away from that point that dj'ing was what he wanted to do in life. His intense passion for music pointed him in the right direction and from that night he never looked back again. He stopped his semi-professional rugby career and threw himself head-first into the deep-end of the nightlife world. It all started with a job working as a light jock in a local club in Reading, a small town outside London where his friend was resident at. Rick's lighting skills were soon recognised and he was offered his first London gig in Fire (Vauxhall) one of the most upcoming and upfront underground clubs in London. He soon moved onto working at one of London's largest, The Fridge and became well-known for his outstanding and innovating light shows incorporating trippy lighting effects with top of the range laser and graphic technologies; working alongside superstar names such as Judge Jules, Anne Savage, Lisa Lashes, Andy Farley, BK, Lisa Pin-Up, nick Sentience, Full Intention, Sharp Boys and many many more. Working with so many different dj's playing vast styles of music, He picked out bit by bit all he needed to start playing himself. After buying a set of decks and practicing at home, Rick finally knew this was what he wanted to do in life, this was his passion.
His dj career kick-started and opportunities kept arising. After playing all around his area and in south London, Rick got offered a job abroad in Corfu where he went back for four summer seasons not only for dj'ing but also for promoting, where he threw some unforgettable full-moon and beach parties. Soon after came the release of his first record on a white label under the production name 2Devious and title "You Got The Love".
Rick is currently in the studio with two close friends from Atmosphere records, producing the complete soundtrack for a daily TV show and working on an EP to be released in mid 2008.
He currently holds two residencies. One at Reading's most upfront and talked about night, "Gifted @ Mango" and another for "Going Places" which has recently moved away from the legendary night "The Gallery @ Turnmills" to The Egg; hosting the Terrace @ the Sattelite 31 party on the first Saturday of the month.
He has played all over the UK and abroad from Turnmills, The Cross, TheEgg, The End & Pacha in London to Es Paradis & Itaka in Ibiza and Ministry of Sound Radio in London; alongside dj’s such as Claude Von Stroke, Ferry Corsten, Freeform Five, Funk D’Void, Tiger Stripes, Sander Van Doorn, Deepgroove, Marco Bailey, Phil Kieran, King Roc and many more.
Rick Maia’s sound ranges from emotional tech house to groovy hypnotic techno; progressive to deep-house anything in between.
