Rock'it science was formed in the spring of 2006 by Gregg Meade 22 (obsidian dj) and Jon Jay 23 (dj Jon-ej), who despite having spent the past four years mixing together for fun had been promoting themselves as individuals. The pair have been friends since their college days and have watched each others mixing ability and style develop over the years.
There is a certain amount of competition between the two, each trying to better the others last mix! They feel that this healthy however and helps to create a frantic and powerfull style of mixing.
Both have been keen followers of the Bristol club scene since their youth and attribute much of their passion for the music to this. Nights spent in clubs such as the Depot and Castros listening to hard house and dj's such as Dan Pearce an Captain Tinrib helped create a taste for the harder end of dance music. Another of their favourite club nights of the past five years has been Bionic in Cardiff, where they have been inspired by many of the worlds top dj's, not least Bionic residents Cally and Juice who set a sparkling example to any young dj looking to make his way in a very competative music scene.
The Rock'it science ethos from day one has been in tune selection, the guys feel that playing a set of anthems is not the way to go, instead prefering to slip in the not so obvious every now and again.! Their style can be described as hard trance/ hardstyle crossover although they do venture into the techy side of things if the mood strikes! As for mixing style, it's fast and unrelenting, big bassline after big bassline!!!
On the production sde of things there is a massive list of people who have influenced the Rock'it science style. To name but a few. . . . Scott Project, Gaz West (dark by design), The Prophet, Luna, Dana, Zany, Pavo, Technoboy, Uberdruck, Yoji Biomehanika, Phil york, Steve Hll, kamui . . . . . the list s endless! However, no list would be complete without mentioning a firm favourite with the guys, the Prodigy! From an early age they were influenced by the band and it goes without saying that music on a wider scale would not be what it is today without their pioneering sound.
As for the future, keep checking the page for upcoming gigs and new mixes, which can be found at site4sound.co.uk or by looking for dj sets on chemical-records.co.uk.
