A bit about Rootsy

I'm Daryl, I live in Maidstone and have been helping with the running of Sounds Heavenly since it started way back in 2000!

Sounds Heavenly was formed in 2000 by promotor Micky Wallis and DJ's Chris Lawley and Kevin Jones. The night started at the infamous Loft Nightclub and quickly built a reputation of being the best Saturday night in the South East for funky soulful house.

As the night began to grow as a brand numerous special guests made the trip down from the bright lights of London. Guests to play for Sounds Heavenly include Danny Rampling, Terry Farley, Seamus Haji, Warren Clarke, Bobby & Steve, Paul Farris and Sir Norman Jay.

With such high profile guests gracing the decks and reporting back to some of London's major promotors it wasn't long till Sounds Heavenly had a regular presence in London with parties at Pacha, Ministry of Sound, Turnmills to name but a few. In 2002, Sounds Heavenly diversified with the launch of their own label which was managed by one of our former residents Mark Knight as an offshoot of his Toolroom Records label. The deal with Toolroom also saw the launch of a sister night, United which was held monthly at the Zap in Brighton. In 2003, Sounds Heavenly left the Loft as the club looked to change it's music policy.

Sounds Heavenly returned to Maidstone in April 2004 with a weekly residency the Soulful Sessions at Frobishers. We also continued in London with parties at Egg, Turnmills and Pacha. 2005 saw Sounds Heavenly be part of two of the biggest parties which London has seen in recent years. Both at Canvas, Sounds Heavenly hosted rooms at the Masters At Work event and the Laurent Garnier & Francois K NYE events at Canvas.

The success of both these parties lead to further bookings and in January 2006 we hosted the whole of Pacha and were joined by guests The Pound Boys. We also returned to Canvas for the Masters At Work party, this year hosting two rooms. So what next.. well like Forrest Gump said "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get!"

Peace, Rootsy x
