1989's where it began for me. Way back in the acid days when it was coast to coast Underground Starlight, Perception and Quest.
With nuff smiley faces and shit. Nuff of the old skool raves and I'm still going strong.
So here we are in 2008, after 20 years of house music and its numerous incarnations. Clubs have come and gone. The "Superclubs" were at their height, but I personally felt post 1998 the whole dance scene had lost its sole. It seems now it's all about what you are wearing and looking cool, more than the original ethos of having a great time and meeting new friends.
Trends and styles appear, disappear, recycle and reinvent themselves. The dance music scene has now become a multi billion dollar dance industry with its heroes and villains, sponsorships, superstars and a plethora of triumphs, failures, champions and cynics. But there was a time when it was all so new, and QUEST in Wolverhampton was at the middle of the universe.
I got into the scene after going to QUEST Wolverhampton, circa 1992-1994.
CLUB KINETIC, Stoke-on-Trent, 1993-1994, DIE HARD in Liecester, DANCE PLANET, DREAMSCAPE, OBESSION, FANTAZIA and other BIG raves at the time.
Before there were superclubs there was Quest, a weekly rave held at Palomas, a function suite in Wolverhampton’s city centre. Like its London based peer Rage, Quests futuristic fusion of breakbeat hardcore and techno defined the underground sound of the time while also laying the foundations for jungle and drum and bass. By the summer of 1995 there were no fewer than four separate hardcore/jungle nights running in Wolverhampton - Pandemonium (at Mr B’s/J Jays in Willenhall) and the Amazon.
But as the 1990’s progressed, the tastes of the Wolverhampton revellers changed. Violence and trouble at the by now predominantly jungle/drum and bass raves ensured that while the music’s popularity went from strength to strength, attendances suffered, and the clubbers ditched the underground for more upmarket dance venues playing house music, such as The Canal and The Mezzanine.
I was raving to Jungle or Drum & Bass & Hardcore & Techno, listenin to DJ's such as LTJ Bukem, Grooverider, Fabio, Top Buzz, Ratty, Pilgrim, DJ Sy, Stu Allan, and SO MANY more its hard to think lol, last but by no means least, the delightful female Drum & Bass DJ Fallout. The best M.C's at that time was Bassman, Man Parris & Magika, my favorate bein the one & only MC ROBBIE DEE
When the scene split in the early 90’s in my opinion, up to 93 most dj’s played the same style of music, then it split you had some dj’s playing the happier side of the music which later turned into
hardcore and some playing drum and bass.
I’ve got a pretty open mind when it comes to music, I listen to everything, old skool 92 and before being my preference however drum and bass, trance, new & old hardcore, all types of house, all the aspects of dance music are in my ipod.
But at the time me and my mates got disillusioned with the darker side of drum and bass, there is the upbeat drum and bass then there is the dark stuff, you know what I’m talking about the nod your head stuff…..we then found Diehard!!!

"(with 120 mg) As the material came on I felt that I was being enveloped, and my attention had to be directed to it. I became quite fearful, and my face felt cold and ashen. I felt that I wanted to go back, but I knew there was no turning back. Then the fear started to leave me, and I could try taking little baby steps, like taking first steps after being reborn. The woodpile is so beautiful, about all the joy and beauty that I can stand. I am afraid to turn around and face the mountains, for fear they will overpower me. But I did look, and I am astounded. Everyone must get to experience a profound state like this. I feel totally peaceful. I have lived all my life to get here, and I feel I have come home. I am complete."
